 180g Double Vinyl Mono LP!

All-Analog Remastered from the 1/4" Master Tapes at Abbey Road and Pressed at Optimal in Germany!

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 10/500!

"This mono mix though, makes obvious that mono continued to be the Beatles’ preference. It’s a more masterful and well-blended mix and if you’re only familiar with the stereo mix you’ll hear many startling differences... In fact everything about the “Helter Skelter” mono mix stomps all over the stereo mix—especially the false ending and following start-up (the mono ends about a minute earlier and before Ringo screams "I Got blisters on my fingers, which is only on the stereo mix). But those are the gross, easily heard differences. The more satisfying ones are far more subtle and some only reveal themselves after a few plays." -Michael Fremer, analogplanet. Music 10/10, Sound 9/10!

The middle of 1968 saw the band busy recording the double album The Beatles, better known as The White Album because of its plain white cover. Dissension began to creep in the group during this time period due to Ringo's temporarily leaving the band and Yoko Ono's (Lennon's new girlfriend at the time) constant presence during the recording sessions. This was also the time in which McCartney was becoming more dominant within the group. The double disc album features "Back In the U.S.S.R.", "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Sexy Sadie", and "Blackbird".

The Beatles in mono: This is how most listeners first heard the group in the 1960s, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary. The Beatles’ nine U.K. albums, the American-compiled Magical Mystery Tour, and the Mono Masters collection of non-album tracks are released in mono on 180-gram vinyl LPs with faithfully replicated artwork and newly mastered from the analogue master tapes.

In an audiophile-minded undertaking, The Beatles’ acclaimed mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Sean Magee and GRAMMY®-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz. While The Beatles In Mono CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers.

Working in the same room at Abbey Road where most of The Beatles’ albums were initially cut, the pair first dedicated weeks to concentrated listening, fastidiously comparing the master tapes with first pressings of the mono records made in the 1960s. Using a rigorously tested Studer A80 machine to play back the precious tapes, the new vinyl was cut on a 1980s-era VMS80 lathe.

Manufactured for the world at Optimal Media in Germany, The Beatles’ albums are presented in their original glory, both sonically and in their packaging.

The Beatles REVOLVER get back to MONO; 180-gram LPs pressed in Germany by Optimal Media -

Newly remastered for vinyl from the analogue tapes by Sean Magee and Steve Berkowitz

Cut to lacquer on a VMS80 lathe

"The EMI representative told me that after absorbing the criticism heaped on the digitially sourced stereo box - including the extensive AnalogPlanet coverage, which was correctly construed as constructive criticism - the decision was made to produce the mono LPs using an all-analog mastering chain. ... Berkowitz told me that in his opinion and in the opinions of many, the mono mixes were the more important reissues and I agree." - Michael Fremer, AnalogPlanet  .

A seriously audiophile-minded undertaking! The Beatles in mono is how most listeners first heard the Fab 4's first recordings, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary.

Now from The Beatles In Mono vinyl box set comes THIS TITLE, compiled and mastered from the original analog tapes.

As mentioned in the quote at the top, analog expert and viny guru Michael Fremer, of AnalogPlanet, says EMI representatives heard and responded to criticisms concerning digitally sourced mastering used to produce The Beatles Stereo Box Set on vinyl. For the mono version, the decision was made to use an all-analog mastering chain to the degree possible.

"It's important to remember that the tapes have aged — some as much as fifty years — and the monitoring, playback and mastering equipment have changed as well, even though the work was done in the very same room in which the originals were mastered. Solid state has replaced tubes in the cutting chain," writes Fremer.

The Beatles' mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by Grammy-winning engineer Sean Magee and Grammy-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz.

Working in the same room at Abbey Road where most of The Beatles' albums were initially cut, the pair first dedicated weeks to concentrated listening, fastidiously comparing the master tapes with first pressings of the mono records made in the 1960s. Using a rigorously tested Studer A80 machine to play back the precious tapes, the new vinyl was cut on a 1980s-era VMS80 lathe.

Fremer says the lathe was equipped with a Neumann SX-74 cutter head. The originals were cut on a Scully lathe, perhaps with a Westrex cutter head.

This is really a deluxe reissue project, done properly, and with careful attention to detail. Beatles collectors and even casual fans of the Lads from Liverpool will be transfixed. Treat yourself!

Now from The Beatles In Mono vinyl box set comes Rubber Soul, compiled and mastered from the original analog tapes.

Released in 1965, Rubber Soul signified a sea change for the Beatles. The record marked the emergence of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's distinctive identities as songwriters. It featured an original ("Nowhere Man") that went beyond the band's commonplace love themes. And its sound departed from the echo-laden nature of its predecessors, an intentional move that offset it from the multiple bands that had been copying the Beatles' style. Still, Rubber Soul retained a constant: It was yet another watershed collection of pop and rock by a group that redefined the genres as it went along.

LASTLY The Beatles Mono Masters 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE 3 LP SET (Mono) TAS Super LP List! Special Merit: Informal All-Analog Remastered from the 1/4" Master Tapes at Abbey Road and Pressed at Optimal in Germany!

180 GRAM Triple Vinyl Mono LP!

"For Beatles fans what could be more enjoyable than sitting down and listening to the singles as originally intended, (direct, sharp and juke-box bright on top) cut from analog tapes and sounding as fresh and new as if they were recorded yesterday? ...If ever there was a more powerful demonstration of analog's superiority, compare these 3 LPs with the double CD set in The Beatles in Mono CD box. The rich harmonica on the LP of the primitively recorded "From Me to You" sounds hard and annoying on CD. The reverberation that floats free and surrounds the instruments dries up and evaporates. The picture is flat and un-involving and on this CD when you play "I Call Your Name" and you scream out "MORE COWBELL PLEASE" you'll mean it. Just play that cowbell for anyone who will listen and then play the record. Game over!" - Michael Fremer, analogplanet, Music 10/10, Sound 10/10!

An all-mono compilation titled Mono Masters is included as part of the Beatles In Mono series. Since the point of the series, and the box set, is to compile only Beatles material released or prepared with a dedicated mono mix, the tracklisting for Mono Masters differs from Past Masters omitting some songs that never had a mono mix and adding songs from stereo-only album that had unreleased mono mixes.
