Hi there
I have for auction a rare Beatles butcher cover album. This infamous record was released in 1966 in America. It depicted the Beatles dressed in Butcher smocks covered in lumps of meat and decapitated dolls. Due to public outcry Capitol records recalled all of the Butcher cover albums from the shops so that they could destroy them. A few of these recalled records had a newer friendly cover pasted over the top to stop too much money being lost by destroying all the slicks. This record is called a Second state butcher album. Which means that is has the butcher cover album underneath the newer slick. These "second state" albums are getting harder to find as everyone was in a frenzy to steam off the new slick to uncover the rarity underneath. I bought this from the well-known Perry Cox in America who is considered one of the greats at authenticating original autographs and Butcher covers. This record comes with a certificate of authenticity from him. So you know it's the real deal as there are a lot of fakes floating around.
You can also clearly see Ringo's v-neck top showing through the paste over. This is the first thing you look for to know if you have a Butcher cover or not.
This would be a great investment as the Butchers are gaining in value, they are currently selling between 2 to 4 thousand US.
This is a stereo record, which is more valuable and rare than the mono copy due to mono still being more popular in 1966.
The cover is in excellent condition, no blemishes or pen marks, comes with the original orange inner sleeve. The record is in near mint condition.
