.
Great Playing Record! Great Cover. Original FIRST PRESS MONO UK PARLOPHONE PRESS Labels
Released in June 1967. Spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one on the American Billboard 200. Prominent critic Kenneth Tynan described Sgt. Pepper In The Times as; "a decisive moment in the history of Western civilisation."
The mothers and stampers read: 'RAO' & 'RAL' making this a very early MONO copy. This LP comes complete with the original Peter Blake / Jann Haworth cut out insert in superb condition and the disc is housed in the original Red / White inner sleeve which is also in superb condition with no seam splits at all!!! This is overall a great MONO FIRST PRESS copy of this rare LP that hardly ever turns up like this anymore.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:
Yes – brilliant! - EXCELLENT PLUS sound quality throughout
This great record plays up to the visual grading and beyond. Sgt Peppers is a complex and varied collection of music, and is also a relatively sensitive piece of vinyl, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Within You Without You.' This copy sounds great, with clear sound and very little background noise or static. There is certainly no dominant or even very noticeable interference, ad no loud pops or clicks. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!
Strong, undistorted sound free of any loud pops or clicks. Channels are clean and unstressed. The record plays with staggering power, with a minimum of surface sound during the tracks. Rich and detailed sound with massive dynamics and unique mix and production. Its a fine copy and any sound blemishes are mild.
A great all round example of this great vinyl.
.
THE RECORD – EXCELLENT
A lovely piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. The record has lovely shine and is largely unmarked, apart form a couple of very very light and small scratches which do not affect the sound. A wonderful example.
.
VINYL SOUND - Please Note:
Top quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by the The Beatles, released in June 1967. Recorded over a 129-day period beginning in December 1966, Sgt. Pepper sees the band exploring further the experimentation of their previous album, Revolver (1966). Making use of orchestras, hired musicians and innovative production techniques, the album incorporates elements of genres such as music hall, jazz, rock and roll, western classical and traditional Indian music; its lyrics deal particularly with themes of childhood and everyday life.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a commercial success, spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one on the American Billboard 200. A defining album in the emerging psychedelic rock style, Sgt. Pepper was critically acclaimed upon release and won four Grammy awards in 1968. Often recognised by prominent critics and publications as one of the most influential albums in the history of popular music.
The cohesive structure and careful sequencing and transitioning of songs on the album, as well as the use of the Sgt. Pepper framing motif, have led the album to be widely acknowledged as an early and ground-breaking example of the concept album.

The Beatles were present during the mixing of the album in mono and the LP was originally released in mono, alongside a stereo mix prepared by Abbey Road engineers led by Geoff Emerick.
The two mixes have many differences. For example, the stereo mix of "She's Leaving Home," was mixed at a slower speed than the original recording and therefore plays at a slower tempo and lower pitch than the original recording. Conversely, the mono version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," is slightly slower than the stereo version and features much heavier flanging and reverb effects. McCartney's yelling voice in the coda section of "Sgt. Pepper (Reprise)" before the segue into "A Day in the Life," can plainly be heard in the mono version, but is nearly inaudible in the stereo version. The mono version of the song also features drums that open with much more presence and force, turned up in the mix. Also in the stereo mix, the famous segue at the end of "Good Morning Good Morning," (the chicken-clucking sound which becomes a guitar noise) is timed differently and a crowd noise tape comes in later during the intro to "Sgt. Pepper (Reprise)".
Other variations between the two mixes include louder laughter at the end of the mono mix of "Within You Without You," a gush of laughter during the intro of the reprise version of the title track and a colder, echo-less ending on the mono version of "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!"
This FIRST EVER MONO gives a great early press listening experience.

THE COVER – EXCELLENT PLUS
The Grammy Award-winning album packaging was art-directed by Robert Fraser, designed by Peter Blake and his wife Jann Haworth, and photographed by Michael Cooper. It featured a colourful collage of life-sized cardboard models of famous people on the front of the album cover and lyrics printed on the back cover, the first time this had been done on an English pop LP. The Beatles themselves, in the guise of the Sgt. Pepper band, were dressed in custom-made military-style outfits made of satin dyed in day-glo colours. The suits were designed by Manuel Cuevas.
.
.
And this is a really Excellent example. Bright a clean with laminate that is largely unmarked. There is some very light scuffing to the corners, and some light creasing, but its relatively very slight. The opening edges are very square and totally un frayed. The back cover is nice and clean, with only very light ring wear, which is very unusual for these covers.
The inside Gatefold is clean and virtually unmarked. The Spine shows minimal wear only, the spine text is totally intact, with a small laminate spilt to the bottom of the spine. A great solid example. All round, this is a really nice cover!!!
.
THE LABELS - NEAR MINT CONDITION
These 1st Press Parlophone labels are in NEAR MINT Condition, with no sticker marks or writing and only some very light spindle wear. All in all these are great examples. I also note that the label one is slightly misaligned, making this an unusual copy.
.
.
THE INNER
EXCELLENT PLUS condition. These fools inner are very rare. Made of VERY thin paper they nearly always tear at the seems, and were usually discarded. This one has NO splits on any of the sides, NO splits or frays at the top, and no serious staining or discolouration. There is just marking from the impression of the record as seen in the images. A great example..
.
Art director Robert Fraser was a prominent London art dealer who ran his own gallery and sponsored exhibitions at the Indica Gallery, through which he had become a close friend of McCartney. it was at his influence that the group abandoned their original cover design, a psychedelic painting by The Fool, a Dutch design collective and band who were influential in the psychedelic style of art in British popular music in the late 1960s. The Fool's design for the inner sleeve was, however, used for the first few pressings, and are now extremly rare in any kind of condition.
.
.
THE INSERT - NEAR MINT
Originally, the group had wanted the album to include a package with badges, pencils and other small Sgt. Pepper goodies but this proved far too costly to realise. Instead, the album came with a page of cardboard cut-outs carrying the description: SGT. PEPPER CUT-OUTS . Moustache . Picture Card . Stripes . Badges . Stand Up . The special inner sleeve, included in the early pressings of the LP, featured a psychedelic pattern designed by The Fool. The final bill for the cover was £2,868 5s 3d (equivalent to £37,531 today), a staggering sum for the time. It has been estimated that this was 100 times the average cost for an album cover in those days.
.
.
A great example in NEAR MINT Condition. No writing, creasing or stains. Virtually perfect!
.
RARITY
A complete MONO Label set in any condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound.
The cover is hard to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a lovely example. Finding a nice cover like this, with a solid pressed piece of vinyl, the original fools inner and cut out insert, fantastic!.
NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS, NO SEAM SPLITS, NO JUMPS OR STICKS - GUARANTEED!

Large format covers with the original sound and mix of the highest quality sound.
Please note. I have described this vinyl as honestly and accurately as possible. Please allow for occasional static (possibly giving a very light crackle) that will nearly always be found on vinyl, No matter how perfect an example it is, or how well it has been looked after.
Static caused by dust in the grooves of the vinyl, is not the same as mechanical damage to the vinyl, i.e. a tick or jump caused by a deep scratch or chip.
