Description

The very first cassette release of "Abbey Road" by The Beatles in November 1969 - (at the same time as the vinyl album) - as denoted by the DARK green paper labels, the printed PCS 7088 catalogue number on the white leader tape (see photo) and the elementary newspaper print design of the inlay with original vinyl album artwork.

This was the second Beatles album to be released on cassette - the first being Sgt Pepper in October 1967, which also had dark green paper labels and the catalogue number printed on the leader tape. Unusual and collectable because the cassette format never really took off with the public until 1972, and by that time the Beatles cassettes were sold in reissue form with "all gold" inlays.

The dark green paper labelled Beatles cassettes, of which only Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper exist, rarely come up for sale as so few were manufactured at a time when cassettes had not become popular enough to match the vinyl offering. They were basically an experimental marketing exercise by EMI, who were wary that their enormous Beatles vinyl sales would be affected.

Played and tested. The dark green labels have faint pen marks (see photos), but are otherwise complete, intact and free from raising. The inlay is free from marks and stains. The original Norelco case is complete and intact with only shelf wear.
