THE ULTRA RARE 1ST PRESS UK "ABBEY ROAD" PCS 7088 WITH THE MISALIGNED APPLE ON THE BACK COVER AND NO "HER MAJESTY" CREDIT ON THE SLEEVE OR THE LABEL!!
There is no rarer issue of this record than the one I am selling here, it has all the right hallmarks of a first press which i will outline below, but even more importantly it is in near mint condition for both record and sleeve! You will have the best copy of this record for your collection, no need to look for another in my opinion.
The Beatles twelfth album release, but the last actually recorded by them. The advance sales in the uk topped 190,000 taking it straight to number one in the charts. After six weeks it had sold 4,000,000!
Named after the London Rd in St Johns Wood where the EMI studios stand, these were eventually renamed the "Abbey Rd" studios beceause of the success of the album and its sleeve.
The cover photo was taken on Friday 8th August 1969 at 10 o'clock in the morning by Iain Macmillan. A British bobby held up the traffic for ten minutes whilst six photos were taken, two of these had Paul wearing his sandals.
It was issued without a title on the cover and just one photo on the front and one on the rear.
In America it won the Grammy for "best engineered, non classical recording"
Description
Sleeve Original side opening Garrod and Lofthouse (photos by Iain Macmillan)
The sleeve is in near mint condition, retains a lovely glossy sheen, no laminate loss, absolute minimun opening and corner wear, minimal creasing and ringwear. Most importantly the apple on the back cover is misaligned to the left underneath the side one track listing( see photo), a defect of genuine first pressings that was corrected on the second run. Also there is no listing of "Her Majesty" as the final track on side two (not mentioned on the label either), meaning this was the "secret track" of a genuine first press record. Also the front cover shows the small portion of sewer cover cut into the white stripe of the zebra crossing below Ringo and Johns feet, later covers were more zoomed out. Not much more to say about the sleeve other than its pretty damn good, you wont be disappointed!
Record
The record is visually in near mint condition, there are a total of about three, faint, hairline sleeve removal marks only. The label has the dark green apple, no "sold in uk...."text, and there is no mention on the end of side two of the final track "Her Majesty", making this a secret track. The matrices are YEX 749-2 and YEX 750-1. All these are perfect pointers to the fact that this is definitely a first press record.
Most important is the stunning audio quality of the record. Both sides play without skips, jumps etc etc, its as it was recorded and released on 26th September 1969. By the way, dont try looking for a Mono version, it was the first one to be released in Stereo only.
There it is then, an opprtunity to own the rarest version of this record, with stunning audio quality!!!
