Description

In this auction:

  • THE BEATLES”(aka “THE WHITE ALBUM”) LP by The Beatles

  • This is Apple Records SWBO - 101 (in stereo).

  • It is a DOUBLE VINYL LP that was initially released November 25, 1968.

  • The LP in this auction is a FIRST RUN/FIRST PRESSING COPY.

  • This LP has a FIRST RUN COVER. We know this because first run covers have a number below 2,250,000 and there is no copyright notice printed inside the gate-fold cover. The number on this LP cover is 1298773 and there is NO COPYRIGHT NOTICE printed inside the cover.

  • The BEATLES” is embossed on the front cover.

  • The vinyl, with Apple labels and the Capitol logo in the perimeter print, is also FIRST RUN/FIRST PRESSING VINYL.

  • Please Note: This LP is NOT the TRUE FIRST PRESSING referred to as the “COMPRESSED PRESSING” that George Harrison instructed Capitol Records to destroy resulting in a very small number of copies that survived.

  • Some first run/pressing Apple labels with the Capitol logo in the perimeter print, were issued with from 2 to as many as 7 errors in the song titles depending on which Capitol pressing plant issued the vinyl.

  • Other first run/pressing Apple labels with the Capitol logo in the perimeter print were issued with CORRECT titles, NO ERRORS at all in the song titles (like “The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill”, “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da”)

  • The LP in this auction contains VINYL that has Apple labels with the Capitol logo in the perimeter print that was PRESSED at CAPITOL’S JACKSONVILLE PLANT, indicated by the “0” stamped in the trail-off, with THREE ERRORS/INCORRECT SONG TITLES:

*BUNGALOW BILL” instead of “THE CONTINUING STORY OF BUNGALOW BILL”

*OBLADI OBLADA” instead of “OB-LA-DI OB-LA-DA

        * ROCKY RACOON” missing the second “C” in “RACCOON” (this error was present in all pressings until the 1980s when it was corrected to “RACCOON”)

  • The LAMINATED WHITE GATE-FOLD COVER is in NICE VG+ CONDITION with very light overall wear/aging. There are tiny pushes on 3 corners and a VERY small “ding” on the opening about 2 inches down from the top right corner. There are NO tears, NO ring-wear, NO seam splits and NO flaking. The COVER IS REALLY CLEAN & WHITE WITH VERY MINIMAL SOILING.

  • The lacquer numbers are:

    Side 1: SWBO-X1-101-J44 #2

    Side 2: SWBO-X2-101-J43 #1

    Side 3: SWBO-3-101-J55 #2

    Side 4: SWBO-X4-101-J49 #2

  • The VINYL (all 4 sides) is in NICE VG+ CONDITION with some very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs (NONE of which are “feel-able”) and the vinyl has LOTS of GLOSS! Oddly, the Side 3 label has some slight rippling around the center hole (not terribly noticeable and label not damaged) which was NOT caused by water damage, so I assume it occurred at the time of production.

  • This LP was issued containing 4 GLOSSY COLOR PHOTOS (one of each Beatle). “Printed in USA” is in the lower left margin. According to Cox/Daniels, photos printed before December 12, 1968 have “Printed in USA” on the bottom margins. Therefore, the photos included are the CORRECT FIRST RUN/PRESSING PHOTOS for this issue of the LP and they are on the heavier paper stock.

  • The 4 GLOSSY COLOR PHOTOS are in NEAR MINT CONDITION.

  • This LP was also issued with a COLOR POSTER with LYRICS PRINTED ON THE REVERSE that measures 33½ inches X about 22½ inches. According to Cox/Daniels, the first run posters have the credit that reads “© Apple Records”. Second and later run posters (1969 –1975) changed this credit to “© 1968 Apple Music Publishing Co., Inc.” The poster in this auction is NOT a first run/first pressing issue, because it has the credit that reads “© 1968 Apple Music Publishing Co., Inc.”

  • The COLOR POSTER with LYRICS PRINTED on the reverse is in VERY STRONG VG to VG+ CONDITION with very light overall signs of handling and some aging. There are NO tears and NO splits on the folds.

OVERALL, A NICE FIRST RUN/FIRST PRESSING of this LANDMARK BEATLES LP with some SONG TITLE ERRORS for SOMEONE’S BEATLES VINYL COLLECTION!
