Description
Been sitting on my shelf for a few years. Played only once. Rare as hens teeth - limited to 1000 copies worldwide. It has shelf wear on the corners and the bottom right edge has a crease. Apart from that, in excellent condition. Paypal or UK cheque.
Richard D. James has on numerous occasions spouted forth his love, influence and appreciation of the music that came out of the BBC's Radiophonic Studio. The glory days (1968 - 1975) were compiled and re-issued for CD by the BBC a couple of years ago - here Rephlex come to the rescue for vinyl lovers and issue the CD's on a quadruple 10" set. The most famous composer here is the late Delia Derbyshire - quite possibly one of the most under-appreciated early electro-acoustic composers - one can only imagine how highly she would be regarded if she worked from the Columbia-Princeton studio in NYC or the GRM Studios in France instead of rooms 13 and 14 at Maida Vale, W9. The first 10" features 10 tracks from Delia Derbyshire, seven of which convey pure joy through analogue experientation, like Raymond Scott on acid, while the last three tracks are killer outer soundscapes, 'Blue Veils and Golden Sands' is simply breathtaking. Record two features 21 compositions from John Baker. Record three features thirteen tracks by Richard Yeoman-Clark / David Cain and Roger Limb / Paddy Kingsoland / Dick Mills, 'Adagio' by Dick Mills is incredible, what must have been a painstakingly laborious tape piece - atmospheric music at it's peak. The final record is six tracks from Malcolm Clarke, solo and alongside Glynis Jones. If, like me, you are a child of the seventies, then this collection is an absolute must. One only hopes that Rephlex will dig a little deeper and bring us more Delia Derbyshire music both previously unissued and now notoriously rare. Until that day, this collection will suffice. Limited to 1000 copies only for the world – this is set to become a serious collectors item, the perfect Yuletide gift from the good folk at Rephlex. Incredible, essential music.
Keep an eye out for other electronic stuff I'll be listing over the next few weeks.
