Charles Chilton's science fiction radio serial "Journey Into Space" 

was first broadcast on the BBC Light programme on 21st September

1953 and eventually ran for over 60 episodes.

This original Studio Master acetate disc, recorded on the 9th September

1953, captures various attempts to record the opening sequence.

A sound effect of a jet / rocket engine is accompanied by a dramatic

introduction by Andrew Faulds ( Jet Morgan ) announcing

 "We Present Journey Into Space" and 

also "We Present Journey Into Space - a Tale of the Future"

The producer / director is also briefly heard, telling them all to "relax"! 

Given that the tapes for the first series were wiped*, I wonder if this 

opening sequence is all that actually survives of the original 

1953 "Journey Into Space" series?

Also included is a BBC acetate Master from 1957 which includes various

sound effects of metallic footsteps on the surface of the spaceship.

Presumably these effects were used for the re-make of the first 

series now entitled "Operation Luna"

 ( * an edited version of the first series, now called "Operation Luna" 

was later re-recorded by the BBC in 1957 to enable overseas sales

of the complete "Journey Into Space" 3 series package )
