Description

Live in Cook County Jail is a live album from the blues legend. It was released on ABC Records in 1971. It was recorded inside the Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois on September 10, 1970. King and his band played for a crowd of 2,117 mostly young, black prisoners. The album spent 33 weeks on the Top 200 Albums chart and peaked at #25. It also went to #1 on the R&B Chart (his only album to achieve that status). Much of the press surrounding the album focused on the harsh living conditions at the jail which helped lead eventual reform. Live in CCJ is ranked #499 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums All-Time list. Rolling Stone also listed it at #40 on its list of Greatest Live Albums. Overall, an excellent artifact and testament in the then popular practice of concerts in prisons. Nice, clean textured first press here.
