BARBEN BLP1004: THE SWEDISH MODERN JAZZ GROUP 'Sax Appeal'
Swedish jazz rarity from 1960, this anodyne name hides the identity of leader/pianist/arranger, Nils Lindberg and his main soloist, the popular baritone saxophonist, Lars Gullin. This was recorded in Stockholm during February 1960. The group is a septet, a sax section plus rhythm, with Rolf Billberg (as), Harry Backlund/Allan Lundstrom (ts), Sture Nordin (b) and Conny Svensson (d) completing the line-up. This is a 1st Swedish mono pressing with green/silver printing label in a flipback cover.
Side 1 'Curbits'/'Play For Love'/'Birdland'
Side 2 'Brand New'/'Just A Take'/'Blues For Bill'/'Zodiac'
CONDITION/DESCRIPTION: The disc is E (VG+) with some light scratches/scuffs and light, general groove wear, visible under a bright 'grading' light. These have little affect on the playing. The cover is V+ (VG-), with edge damage including a 5cm split in the middle of the bottom seam and another incipient one in the middle of the spine. All three edges have been 'taped'. Part of the cellophane used as a lamination on the front is missing. There is also some surface creasing. However, despite all these faults, the picture on the front and the detailed notes on the back can be seen/read clearly.
