They were apparently pretty big in the Boston area in the late 60's/early 70's. Their debut S/T LP was a bit of a sleeper for me. The major labels weren't generally well known for releasing decent psych records (though a number of well known examples exist), and there wasn't much of a buzz around this one upon it's release. But it seemed worthy of investigation, and I was pleasantly surprised. Though definitely psych influenced, the aspects of that genre are primarily subtle, witnessed mostly via substantial use of fuzz guitar throughout the album. But the main forte of their sound is built around potent vocal harmonies that beg comparison to the venerable Crosby, Stills, and Nash, accompanied by a somewhat heavier, hard rock backing, featuring the aforementioned fuzz guitar. Some jazz moves are also apparent here and there, but the overall period flavor is excellent
