Description

Back in 1978, I was a student at the University Of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A friend of mine, a fellow progger, was out looking for records when he later mentioned to me a group called "Babylon" in the import bin (in those days indies were marketed as "imports") but he thought it was a "disgusting looking punk rock LP." My curiousity was aroused, and I ran out and bought it, and surprise, it was one of the best prog-rock LPs that I have ever heard!

I would rank this in my "TOP 3" USA prog LPs along with Fireballet "Night On Bald Mountain" and Yezda Urfa "Boris." The Fireballet LP is still obtainable, the Yezda Urfa LP is impossibly rare as it was a demo, but this is close!

A few years later I sold my hard-found first copy (and have been kicking myself ever since) but I was fortunate enough to find another copy from a serious collector which I traded a small fortune for!

Stylistically, they are in the Gabriel-Genesis school in both music and lyrics, but personally I think that they are even better! Not Genesis clones however; their music is faster, even tighter and more technical and complex.

TRACKS: The Mote In God's Eye; Before The Fall; Dreamfish; Cathedral Of The Mary Ruin.

LINE-UP: Rick Leonard (bass/voice/pedals), Doroccus (lead voice/keys), Rodney Best (drums/percussion), J. David Boyko (guitars/effects), G.W. Chambers (voice/keys)

An almost mint, like new copy. Vinyl (while not the best pressing) plays well without any serious surface noise, cover has some very superficial ring wear and a minor factory discoloration in one corner. A progressive rarity and tour-de-force!
