Sibelius

Symphony # 2 In D major Opus 43

The Cheskys are musicians first, audiophiles second and record producers of merit.

When they looked at music to reissue it had to musically and sonically wonderful.

Now long out of print, thier reissue of Sibeluis' Symphony #2 fits the criteria.

Number 2, with its huge passionate sound has been called Finland's rallying cry for independence.

Sibelius disavowed any political agenda and asked that the music be taken at face value. Political or not the passion of this music speaks to the world.

When the big audiophile LP rush was happening some smart audiophiles looked beyond the Shaded Dogs and Mercurys to what the Brits were doing.

nDecca in the SXL series and EMI in the ASD series were producing some recordings that were every bit as good as the Dogs and the Mercurys. In fact some of the best Shaded Dog releases were actually Decca and EMI recordings. This great recording is one of them.

This is one of the legendary recordings of Gerhart and Wilkinson, in this case at Walthamstow Town Hall, a small old Town Hall in Northeast London suburbs that just happens to have a wonderful recording acoustic that has consistently hosted recordings of extraordinary sonic realism.

This record was played two or three times on a Rockport table / arm / Grasshopper cartridge combo.

To be conservative I will rate it at Mint-. No sign of play. IMHO no record which has been played can be mint.

The cover is mint.
