Description
A 1968 Stereo Repress of Archie Shepp - Four For Trane originally released in 1965. Released on the Impulse ABC Records label AS-71, VAN GELDER and STEREO are stamped in the run out grooves.
This is a crossover pressing - the A-71 Mono sleeve has been overstickered with a gold Stereo sticker ( see photos).
Degritter cleaned, the vinyl has good lustre with some light scuffs, hairlines and blemishes which do not affect playback. Clean labels and spindle holes. Graded VG+ visually, plays closer to EX.
Playtest reveals a full bodied and immediate sound, clean, crisp and detailed. Excellent instrument separation - a top class recording!
The vinyl plays through beautifully with no jumping or sticking. Some very occasional low noise in a few places but absolutely normal for the age.
The gatefold sleeve is solid & robust with some corner rubbing, very faint ringwear and some light foxing/discolouration to the inner leaves. There is an area of laminate peel to the rear near the opening. No tears, splits or ugly tape repairs.
Heavyweight lined inner sleeve present, possibly original, & still doing a great job.
A lovely copy to own, play and enjoy.
The record will be sent separated out in an archival outer sleeve to prevent transit splits.
