Description

Released in 1953, this is a rare early example of Andy Warhol’s famous cover art.  It was discovered and first cataloged by Warhol expert Paul Marèchal in 2013, and only three were thought to exist then.  Now, it is believed that only 5 exist.  This one makes the sixth!

One of these is on display as part of an exhibition titled “Warhol on Vinyl – The Record Covers 1949-1987? that is now being hosted by the Cranbrook Art Museum near Detroit through March 2015.  With nearly 100 unique Warhol covers, it is the first exhibition of his record cover art since 2008.

These records with covers have sold for as much as $3800.

The cover is graded VG+ for minor yellowing and some barely noticeable ring and seam wear, just short of being called scuffs, and for a ¾ inch split in the top seam and a ¼ inch split in the bottom seam.  The record is graded EX for slight ring wear in the form of a few tiny flakes and one small wrinkle in the paper of the label.  There are no scuffs or scratches on the record surface.

This rare collectable will be carefully packaged, padded and double boxed, and sent Registered, so fully insured, through USPS Priority 2-day Mail.
