Description
"Andrew Neil", is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and poet who is a rising figure in outsider and lo-fi, music scenes. Most of his work consists of self-recordings he recorded alone in his home and at Western State Hospital while he was a patient there from Apirl 2014 - 30 Apr 2017. His music is often cited for its authenticity and an almost childlike, yet uncompromising lyrical approach". He has been compared to the late great Daniel Jonhston in some ways. "Freak" is Andrew Neil's 2nd studio Album, released in October 2019!! Notable musicians include Andy Waldeck, bass, Matty Metcalf (Lead guitar), Nathan Brown, drums (Drummer for the Band Everything), .Andrews songwriting skill and unique melodies created a wonderful sketch pad for music producer Andy Waldeck, who turned the Album into what many are calling an alternative/Indie Rock album masterpiece, with an outsider spin. One of the very cool things about "Freak" is the old school notion of incorporating good relevant art with the Music. Obviously, the music was critical, but Andrew viewed the Album cover art as equally important. The Front Cover Art for this album was done by Andrew's brother and outsider artist Kyle Scott (Kyscoma). Here is what one reviewer said about "Freak":
The album is an ambitious work, with 14 unique tracks that address topics of love, faith, mental illness and self-identity. It opens with the marvelous title track “Freak“, and the first thing that struck me is its strong Red Hot Chili Peppers vibe. In fact, Andrew’s unusual, quirky vocals at times sound a lot like Anthony Kiedis. The intricate guitar work is terrific, and I love the track’s funky psychedelic grooves. "
During the recording of this album, Andrew Neil was diagnosed with a very aggressive Lymphoma Cancer in July 2019. Most of the final vocals were completed in between Chemotherapy sessions. He was determned to finish the album.
"Freak" made it to the the top 50 on the College Radio Charts in 2018. It remained on the Charts for 12 weeks.
