Description
Well boys and girls, Here is one of the hardest to find Alkaline Trio records in the world. If you are not familiar with the concept of a "test pressing", let me explain. In Laymens.
A test pressing is a step in the process of mass producing vinyl records. Before the factory can start cutting the song into 10,000 records they first cut into a few records to make sure there is no skipping and that the quality of sound is good enough to start mass producing. So they do about 5-10 test pressings, listen to them and decide whether to go on and print the rest.
Test pressings do not have labels or stamps that say alkaline trio or green day Dookie, they are blank. Usually just the Record Company's anitials and sometimes the date it was pressed for instance Alkaline Trio's I Lied My Face Off test press says AM 5/27/99 for Asian Man records and the date it was pressed. This Record says LK 264 for Look Out records.
Test pressings are supposed to be destroyed, but they always seem to find their way out of the factory. These are the most sought out records by collectors because no matter how rare a vinyl is, the test press is always the rarest and hardest to find. So in the case of Sundials when they say there is only 500 copies, that is wrong there are at least 5-10 more floating around as test presses. Unless of of course they were destroyed.
In the picture I place the test press next to the regular press to show you the difference. The test press has a large hole in the center and the stamp is white with the words DATE RECORD NO. and TEST PRESSING the regular press has graphics and colors and what nots
