Alex Rodríguez (guitarra, bajo, compositor) es uno de los guitarristas de jazz más importante de Venezuela en la década de los setenta. Nacido en 1952, inicia sus estudios musicales desde temprana edad y forma parte de varias agrupaciones de rock, así como también tiene la oportunidad de integrar prestigiosos proyectos musicales como la Orquesta de Onda Nueva del maestro Aldemaro Romero. Crea una agrupación de corta vida pero que ha sido considerada como referencia dentro de la historia musical venezolana: La Retreta Mayor y deja grabado el álbum La Retreta Mayor (1976).

Tras ese debut discográfico, La Retreta Mayor se separa sin llegar a hacer presentaciones en vivo, pero Alex Rodríguez continua su carrera musical con la publicación del álbum Búsqueda (1978), donde se reafirma como uno de los exponentes de jazz más importantes de la época. Sin embargo, su legado discográfico dentro del mundo del jazz sólo se limitaría a esos dos álbumes.
