Description

Title:   PRESTIGE ALL STARS

Label:   PRESTIGE.  Monaural first pressing on medium weight vinyl.  Label is yellow with black text, with deep groove.   Catalog number is P 7118.

“RVG” is stamped in the runout area on both sides.

Label and jacket address is PRESTIGE RECORDS INC., 446 W. 50TH ST., N. Y. C. on both sides.

Year:   1957

Personnel:

Thad Jones – trumpet

Frank Wess – flute and tenor sax

Kenny Burrell – guitar

Mal Waldron – piano

Paul Chambers – bass

Arthur Taylor - drums.

Condition:

DISC:  Vinyl is NM-/VG++ with full original gloss.  Disc has been played a small number of times, likely once or twice, and handled with care.  Side One vinyl is flawless.  Side Two would grade NM except for one long, “surface” hairline scuff that does not sound.  Plays superbly with awesome fidelity and no distractions.  Labels are clean with only one or two very faint spindle trail marks.  You will not find a nicer sounding copy anywhere.

JACKET:   Jacket is nice VG++.   Laminated front panel is clean and bright, with no surface or ring wear.  Nice seams and spine.  Minor wear at three of the 4 corners.  Reverse has a few small, light moisture stains at the top, but no writing, stickers or other issues.  Overall a very fine jacket to accompany the great sounding disc.

NOTE:  Play graded and cleaned on a Nitty Gritty “mini-Pro” professional model record cleaning machine.   Nicest of all, your satisfaction is fully guaranteed.

Review:

“A leaderless sextet jams on four of pianist Mal Waldron's originals.  The performances range from eight to 12 minutes apiece.  The all-star lineup -- trumpeter Thad Jones, Frank Wess on tenor and flute, guitarist Kenny Burrell, Waldron, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Art Taylor -- is in fine form on the straight-ahead material.  Bop fans will want to pick this up.”
