Originally recorded between 1972 and 1974, Black Water Gold captures African Music Machine at their most inventive, blending deep Southern funk with soul, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean influences. Led by Louis Villery, the Louisiana group developed a distinctive sound that remained largely overlooked until collectors and DJs rediscovered the recordings decades later. Highlights include "Black Water Gold (Part 1)," "Mr. Brown," "Tropicana," and "A Girl in France."
This 2000 reissue presents the complete collection of these long-sought recordings, preserving one of the hidden treasures of the funk era.
