Absolutely Rare...DOORS TEST PRESSING "ABSOLUTELY LIVE" 2 DISCS
May 1970 test pressings of the Doors' "Absolutely Live" album.
Retired rock critic selling off an ancient stash. Admittedly, these amazingly rare discs are not in primo condition. They were played, at least until the actual album came out a month or two later, and there is dust and smudging, and the sleeves although 100% original are kind of messed up.
But there's no observable warping, and there weren't too many of these around back then, and probably quite a lot fewer now.
White paper sleeves only, much yellowed and edge-worn. There is no album art slick: At this point, the group was still debating the album title. According to a source, Jim wanted to call it "Lions in the Streets," the other three Doors wanted to call it "Road Trips," and Elektra ended up calling it "Absolutely Live," which pleased no one.
The writing on the sleeves is in three different hands, as follows:
On Disc 1 in blue ink: EKS 9002 A-2CTH B-2 CTH
"P" and "2" written in red felt-tip in a second hand
DOORS TEST #1 in blue ink in a third hand (large and bold)
On Disc 2 in blue ink: EKS 9002 C-2CTH D-2CTH
DOORS TEST#2 in blue ink as per Disc 1
The discs have plain white labels with the song titles in fine black ballpoint or razorpoint, and the matrix numbers in the space between last groove and label match those written on the sleeves. Most of the handwriting is that of an Elektra employee.
Disc 1 label, A side:
Who Do You Love? Medley: Whisky Bar Back Door Man Love Hides Five to One
Disc 1 label, B side:
Ten Foot WOMAN (all caps) When The Music's Over
Disc 2 label, C side
Close To You Universal Mind Break On Through
Disc 2 label, D side:
Celebration of the Lizard Soul Kitchen
As indicated, these discs are in good but not perfect shape. But the rarity factor is absolutely incredible. Additionally, the original configuration of this album is no longer available, having been combined in with other tracks on later CDs.
Collectors take note.
