Artist or Band: JULIE DRISCOLL, BRIAN AUGER & THE TRINITY
Album Title: Streetnoise.
Producer(s): Giorgio Gomelsky.
TRACK LIST:
Side 1: [“How Good it Would be to Feel Free”]: Tropic Of Capricorn; Czechoslovakia; Take Me To The Water; A Word About Color.
Side 2: [“Kiss Him Quickly, He Has to Part”]: Light My Fire; Indian Rope Man; When I Was Young; The Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In).
Side 3: [“Looking in the Eye of the World”]: Ellis Island; In Search Of The Sun; Finally Found You Out; Looking in the Eye of the World.
Side 4: [“Save the Country”]: Vauxhall To Lambeth Bridge; All Blues; I’ve Got Life; Save the Country.
Label/Format: Marmalade (Please see my label scan).
Label Conditions: All four very clean and fresh looking, spindle marks are very light indeed, fine and faint and showing little. This classic set on one of the classic 60s labels appears very lightly played and offers wonderful sound throughout.
Cat Number: 608005/06.
Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.
Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.
Weight of these Records: 145 / 130 grams.
Country of Manufacture: England.
Rarity & Information: Very Rare as the original double set. I say ‘double’ because this album, like Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland and The Who’s Tommy was also issued in two separate parts as single albums. This double set did not sell in great numbers and is highly prized and very elusive. Also rarely found in fine condition, the cover’s often being a grubby tatty mess and the records rendered unplayable. This album is a very high intensity recording with one of ‘rock’s most powerful ever female voices. Very complex information are locked away in these fragile grooves and any abuse or over-use from old pile-driver needles shattered this delicate information. Even today, a good system is required to track this album to it’s full potential and I would be pretty certain many early copies of this record are today unlistenable with severe distortion, horrendous surface noise and high frequency clipping. Although three of the four sides have one or two light surface marks, they have no sound and this double set delivers incredible sound that remains clear, clean and importantly, fully focused with no distortion. Even the most demanding passages of vocal intensity remain crisp and sharp and I would bet most won’t these days. A set that totally blew me away and possibly still one of the greatest ‘lost’ classics of the late 1960s. Julie Driscoll, later Tippetts after marrying Keith, possesses one of the most innovative, stylish, distinctive and emotive voices ever put to record – her sheer power of expression leaves it’s mark immediately. ‘Streetnoise’ includes original material and a host of classic covers including The Doors’ ‘Light My Fire’, Nina Simone’s ‘Take Me To The Water’, Laura Nyro’s ‘Save The Country’, Miles Davis’ ‘All Blues’, Richie Havens’ ‘Indian Rope Man’ and ‘Let The Sunshine In’ from the musical Hair. With Brian Auger’s brilliant Hammond organ, this blends progressive rock with jazzy elements and soul. Even today, this record has not aged, in fact it still sounds as fresh and exciting as when it was issued, this is a brilliant album and deserved to be heard and appreciated by more music-lovers who simply overlooked it years ago and yet to discover it’s delights. ‘Streetnoise’ is a spellbinding innovative masterpiece.
Musicians: Julie Driscoll - vocals, acoustic guitar; Brian Auger - organ, piano, electric piano, vocals; Clive Thacker - drums, percussion; David Ambrose - 4 and 6 string electric bass, acoustic guitar, vocals.
Original Year of Release: 1969
Matrix Nos: 608005 A // 1 1 1 / 608005 B // 3 1 1 4 / 608006 A // 2 1 1 1 / 608006 B // 2 1 1 5
This Cover’s Potential for Wear: Very High+: although the textured surfaces feel quite ‘hard’ to the touch, it was made with thin card, hence, like most double sets, it will be prone to all forms of wear.
Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT (or very close to): and this is no mean grading for one that, when found, is usually in tatters. An unlaminated gatefold format with a textured front and back, this his not ‘soft’ texturing, the surfaces feel quite firm to the touch, a little like washable wallpaper. This was printed and made in England by E. J. Day.
Cover Front & Back: Both sides are similar with the same textured finish. The front has little to fault with any grubbiness being very mild, light and faint and has barely any marks, rubbing or creasing. Including a superb graphic, this is totally unblemished as I hope my close-up picture shows. The back largely the same with just a small surface scuff just below the text near the top right corner – a minor blemish only. The lack of ringwear each side is a most welcome bonus, few will ever avoid it.
Cover Inner Gatefold: Barely anything to fault at all with any handling traces to the matt, smooth surfaces being very light indeed. The lyric text near the bottom appears a little faded, this I am certain is how it was printed. The pale text appears a little filled-in by the deeply coloured background and there is no rubbing.
Top Edges: Some light rubbing, odd minor surface scuff, being so pale, it has lesser visual impact.
Bottom Edges: As above.
Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean and surprisingly, sharp to very sharp with little wear and no feathering. Any thickening or burr traces tiny and light. Both are guaranteed untrimmed. Records entered on these right outside edges.
Spine and Text: A wide spine and beyond delicate and wear-prone. The only on I have ever seen that retains practically all of it’s text as seen on my close-up picture. Few ever will, as it covers around 80 per cent of the spine area, the law of averages states, some will be eroded and missing – well, seeing is believing and this one is exceptional. Remaining solid, quite straight with minimal compression, both right edges meet up very closely together and very close to parallel. Given the unforgiving nature of this cover, I consider this an exceptional spine with any rubbing near the very ends (out of range of the precious text). Even the vulnerable folds are neat with minimal rub traces.
Corners: The corners have rubbed but again it has little visual impact due to the pale colour. Slight thickening to the spine pair ends but overall, most retain fine shape and good definition.
Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile late 60’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better – indeed finding this at all is a fair challenge these days. This attractive item should please many, if not most collectors. Both the Polydor style lined inners are included in very find condition too, slightly darkened with age but very solid and fully intact with minimal creasing and no splits. The windows are incredibly neat and sharp and linings solid and clear. These are coded 25 0670 and 26 0670.
Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Again EXCELLENT, or very close to. A lovely visual pair that are very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed, one a little heavier than the other as seen above. A pair with minimal plays on all the evidence. As stated further up, three of the four sides have one or two light surface marks, thicker than hairlines but with NO sound at all. Any other blemishes are very fine and faint hairlines types seen under light. Few records this great age with not have minor visual blemishes as the very least, when they have no sounds, they bother me little. Sound quality is paramount for me and a fact-of-life and record-selling, these old classics will acquire the odd minor minor or two over the years. Complex groove patterns which will tell ‘vinyl readers’ this set has incredible sound values. A record issued possibly before its time in terms of record playing technology and so many would have been written-off by unsuitable record players of the time. An immensely dynamic high-fidelity recording and Miss Driscoll’s voice will test out even modern systems and pickups. Visually still impressive records that should please many, if not most collectors.
Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Immensely complex and full-on sound and all plays with stunning audio reproduction. Both records play above their impressive visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, powerful sound, and quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no noteworthy pops or clicks were heard and this is an exceptional clean pressing. As stated, this has moments that will test out even high-end pickups and systems. Few examples will play entirely without unwanted distortions and high frequency clipping as Driscoll’s voice soars and sways around the intense Hammond organ sound from Auger. I politely remind, this set was playing on still one of the world’s most revealing turntables, the Linn LP12 Sondek, a Naim amp and B&W Nautilus tweeters that leave no hiding place for minor imperfections, but these records excel. Even the most shrill high-end vocal parts by Driscoll still remain intact, precise and sharp, any stressing minuscule and few will better these. Every track plays with stunning sound and all fully focused and clear. The sheer emotion of the material and that voice puts any minor vinyl blemishes into the shade as the unrelenting power bursts from the speakers. The sound and production are just so perfect for the times but only the best systems from way back would have made it shine as it should have and so may would have had those delicate groove walls sheared off by blunt or chipped sapphire stlyii. Back the day, a diamond tipped stylus was considered a luxury item. I am delighted to state this pair of records, that both look little played have survived close to unscathed and will still give years of pleasure when now played on ultra lightweight, fine-tipped pickups. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. I am certain both records have been played very lightly and have been clearly well stored and mainly carefully handled. I cannot say ‘pristine perfect’, but realistically, it will take a pretty amazing pair to beat these in real terms and for most fans and collectors these will thrill. Vinyl records this great age will rarely play from beginning to end without the odd minor blemish, especially with such complex and demanding sound. Julie’s voice, within the rock field, has to be one the most challenging ever. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these beautiful records. This set will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.
Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, a couple more at weekends if time permits, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirety, not just bits to guess a grade - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story. I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get and scanned labels will give a more accurate representation of the genuine colour than flash photography where light is variable. I cannot guarantee total accuracy for colours however but most will be very close. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert and vice-versa. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic, and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps, sticks, warps or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.
Equipment Used for Play-Grading: I now play-grade ALL the records I offer (unless clearly stated to the contrary) on the following equipment:Deck: Linn LP12/Hercules/Cirkus with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Rondo Red moving coil cartridge (tracks at 2 grams). Amps: Naim Nait 5i with Project USB phono stage and Chord interconnects. Speakers: B&W 704 Floorstanding 3-way Monitors (bi-wired with QED Silver terminated cable). All records I offer on Ebay are cleaned on a professional VPI-17 vacuum machine before play-grading for the cleanest and best possible sound and will include a brand new lined inner and protective cover too.
First-time, zero-rated bidders, who do not ask permission to bid, will be cancelled immediately and blocked – NO exceptions. For winning bidders who I consider excessively slow to make contact or submit payment, I will use my right to block future bids. If any bidder who wins in the final seconds is present to do so, surely they can at least email me to inform of intention and payment method? If swift or promp payment is a problem, please do not bid.
PACKING - THIS IS WHAT YOU GET.
What You Get: To confirm to the strict Ebay rules on shipping, I must now send ALL my packets ‘Signed-For’ with NO exceptions. Both buyers and sellers want their packets to have a safer journey and this is not a bad thing.
I now offer the fastest possible posting, often the very next day after payment is received or within two to three days maximum (unless on holiday). I only use FIRST-CLASS Mail. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. When larger boxes are used, the thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. Printed address labels are used for clarity as well as a sender label. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if at all possible but ‘Signed-For’ posting is NOT an option anymore. I do not profit on posting and the cost of this lavish packing is NOT even charged for, I offer probably the best-value and safest shipping possible for ultimate confidence. The boxes and ultra thick double-wall stiffners and bubble wrap make a near impregnable fortress for safe shipping and this is used inland and overseas for ALL my records, not just the rare and expensive. I will invoice any winning bidder as soon as possible after the auction ends. My ‘loss’ or ‘damage rate’ is less than one in two thousand based on over 7,000+ items sold in nearly 10 years of Ebay trading and I consider that pretty exceptional. The only damage rate acceptable for this seller is ZERO and I think my packets will offer just that. It would take a vicious postman or postal service to damage these for sure. Even one of these stiffeners cannot be bent by hand, so what chance 3 or 4 inside a box? Oneadayrecords is a MAILER-FREE ZONE. I discount of course for multiple purchases with a maximum of FIVE records per box (one double can sometimes be included subject to total weight). I will not respond to questions on shipping costs as all the details are included here and on ALL of my adverts. Details below:
NOTE: First Time Bidders: I will cancel ALL first-time bidders with no feedbacks or excessive negatives who do not ask me if its OK to bid first – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please Note: I will now offer any item to the runner-up after the mandatory Ebay 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder unless prior notice of any delay is given beforehand. The same applies if no payment is received within the mandatory 7 days so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance – it’s always worth asking.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE
My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.
The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
