It’s not every day that a Saw Blade, Fry Pan, Cowbell, Conch Shell and Cricket Callers serve as the foundation of musical vocabulary. Yet the Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble makes masterful use of these, as well as more traditional percussion instruments.

“Different Strokes” is, well, different. Combining skilled musicians, a seamless choice of compositions, and audiophile recording techniques, the album explores a musical genre that few artists have been able to get away with. However, Hohner’s ensemble is not only up to the task, but it succeeds in shedding a new light on music, effectively translating the primitive power of the jungle as well as the multitude of contemporary music, such as jazz, folk music, dance and much more. The end result is a collection of vital pieces that captures the listener’s attention; like hearing your own language being spoken, but with an intriguingly unfamiliar accent.

The title “Different Strokes” reflects the exceptional range of music presented by the album’s 17 percussionists, all of whom are current and former students of Hohner. The pieces are 20th century compositions, ranging from the ragtime feel of “Powder Puff” to the Led Zeppelin inspired “Bonham”, a 7 1/2 minute od to rock drumming.

Mint (M) : Album has been opened and most like unplayed and as close to new as possible.

Near Mint (NM) : Record appears as Mint condition with perhaps one spindle mark and no marks on the vinyl. Vinyl has original gloss.

Near Mint Minus (NM -) : Record visually appears as Near Mint condition but play with maybe few occasionally soft ticks. Vinyl has original gloss.

Very Good Plus Plus (VG++) : May have few superficial light marks like sleeve marks, scuffs or hairline. Maybe few occasionally soft ticks. Important details always describe out under condition in my listing. Vinyl has original gloss.

Very Good Plus (VG+) : May have some light scratches marks, There is some soft ticks and might have some pops. Important details always describe out under condition in my listing. Still well looked after with glossy vinyl.

Poor or Fair condition items : I do not sell.
