ATOMIC ROOSTER – In Hearing Of ORIG Pegasus LP /PEG 1 (UK, Stereo, 1971)

Happy to present Rooster’s 3rd UK LP their only one for the short lived Pegasus label.  Connoisseur collectors should be thrilled to have this A-1U /B-1U (with 1 GR mothers) copy in their collection as it plays from start to finish without audio blemish – just loud and clear heavy sounds, no impairment whatsoever.

The unlaminated gatefold sleeve was printed by the E.J Day Group in England and has these minor imperfections away from a near mint state: there are a few horizontal ‘scrape’ lines on the front panel – these are not easily visible and don’t detract significantly.  The longest of these lines has left a thin indentation across most of the width of the front.  There is a light crease to the rear top left which has indented through to the front corner slightly.  Minor ring impression to the rear.  A smidgen of edge rubs top and bottom and towards the bottom right corner.  REMEMBER ON HIGH GRADE VINTAGE LPs I OUTLINE EVERY BLEMISH!  None of this is particularly noticeable and there are NO rips, tears, splits, writing, stickers, residue or foxing spots.  The spine is strong and firm with virtually no compression and the corners remain nearly fully defined.  Inner gate is clean bar a little rubbing to the top left and the opening edges show no feathering and little, if any, softening.  All in all a very satisfying strong and clean gatefold which STRICTLY grades EX- (Excellent Minus).

The labels (one text, one the classic ‘winged horse’ design of this lovely looking imprint) are in as good condition as you could hope for with full colour maintained, NO writing, stickers, tears, dirt or other blemishes and hardly ANY spindle at all between the 2 sides.  Superb pair of early 70s labels!

The mediumweight disc is also in lovely shape.  Cosmetically I could only see a small 1-inch nick and a longer, lighter scuff both to the same side and neither of which has any impact whatsoever on the fantastic audio.  There are NO scratches or hairlines NOR any embedded dirt or dust pockets.  Visually the disc also grades EX- (Excellent Minus), if not full EX in many books.  THE RECORD, AS STATED, HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO, and it must be said that this is one of the cleanest sounding 40 year-old discs I have heard in a long time.  NO clicks, scrapes, hiss.  NO pops, snap or crackle.  NO distortion or loss of clarity.  Of course, NO jumps or repeats.  Simply a stone quiet, quality manufactured piece of vinyl which sounds as fresh today as it did in 1971.  This should satisfy and delight true analogue fans.  Brilliant!

Great stuff from this band, who for some reason never sold as well as others from the time, yet produced some of the tightest, heaviest and most memorable music in the scene.  No reserve!
