Amazing! What we have here is a totally undocumented, heretofore unseen (and probably unheard, unaired and unplayed) promo-only, never commercially released, 3-LP Motown Radio Show narrated by the legendary Soul Bard, Mr. Smokey Robinson himself, containing numerous high points from the legendary recording label's long and wildly successful history (up to 1981), also known as "The Sound of Young America" interspersed with Smokey's mellifluous narrative, jingles and such. We doubt that the radio show was ever actually aired (the scheduled broadcast date and contract material typically found in almost all radio show packages are conspicuously missing; this may have been Motown's "trial balloon" that was probably canned at the last moment as too expensive and of dubious commercial potential); we could not locate any trace of it anywhere, or any evidence of its production or actual broadcast and none of the Motown or Smokey Robinson discography hold any reference to it whatsoever. From what we were able to determine, the Radio Show has the same title as the French Motown compilation released a year later (1982), but the American concept and the content was entirely different: French album was a single-disc 'Greatest Hits'-type compilation, whereas the American release was a 3-LP set apparently sent (or probably never sent?) only to the American radio stations for an anticipated radio broadcast that simply wasn't to be. This is a lone specimen extant, no other copies have ever been found or documented. Do I really need to stress how rare it is? If you are a Tamla/Motown/Gordy/Soul/VIP/Rare Earth collector, this is your first, last and only chance to own a piece of history and something that probably no one else on this planet owns. Reach Out NOW, this beauty will NOT be there VERY SOON.
THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record (this being a somewhat moot point here, being that this 3-lp set was never commercially or otherwise released to begin with).

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE FIVE OF THE SIX SIDES (SIDES 2-6) OF THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new (THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS SIDE 1 WHICH WE SEPARATELY GRADE AS VERY GOOD+(+) .
(b) The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) The record come in their original stock inner sleeves.
(d) The album comes with BOTH original inserts: the radio cue sheet, and the Motown Trivia Quiz.
(e) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· THE COVER
COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ?SHRINK WRAP
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease) in one of the corners.
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams
- Cover has two corners slightly dinged (nothing significant)
NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER
