ART BLAKEY & THE JAZZ MESSENGERS LP (SELF-TITLED) (Blue Note Records BLP 4003).
Early US mono "Deep Groove" pressing with the W. 63rd. St. address printed on both sides of the label. Deep Groove on both labels. "RVG" is etched in the dead wax on both sides to note that this album was mastered by the esteemed recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder. Buck Hoeffler's stunning cover photo portrays Art in yellow-gold sepia-tone.
Constructed with high-quality materials such as heavy fiberboard cover & nice thick heavy vinyl, pressed with a sharp edge. Play grading demonstrates this copy's amazing live sound as if the band was playing right next to the listener! The level of background surface noise gave more than enough room for me to enjoy this work immensely. Cover glows with a warm glossy finish. Bobby Timmons, who wrote the superb opener "Moanin," Lee Morgan & Benny Golson all play on this album! Long informative liner notes by experienced jazz critic Leonard Feather. (Matrix #:"BN-LP-4003-A-1 RVG").
COVER - VERY GOOD PLUS
Cover is free of seam splits, stains, cut-out marks, tape, stickers, writing & color fading. The cover is straight & flat with no bowing. No ring wear. Mild rubbing. Slight corner banging with a few tiny flakes missing at three of the corners. Back cover shows three quarter-inch tears, but this does not cover any of the writing or design. An eighth-inch flake is chipped off of the spine, cut nearly all the spine print is readable, with hardly any denting. Vintage blue & white Deep Groove label is in excellent shape, with no marks, writing, residue, scuffs, stickers, fading or cuts. Sharp print, rich color on label. Really neat & sharp cut hole with faint spindle scuffs.
DISC - VERY GOOD
We give great importance to grading our items accurately. The surface shows a noticeable quantity of flecks, scuffs & light scratches. Pressed on a very thick slab of vinyl which holds the sound quite well. Play grading reveals a low level of background noise that does not prevent me from gaining great pleasure from listening to this copy. No skips, warping, stains, streaking, shiver scrapes or residue on the disc or dead wax. Album has been stored upright in a safe manner.
