Description
ART BLAKEY and the JAZZ MESSENGERS Blue Note, RVG, P, LAM, BLP 4003 mono Vinyl
This is 1958, first edition, “RVG” stamped, Laminated Cover, “P” pressing of ART BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS on the "47 West 63rd” labels of Blue Note BLP 4003. Musicians include Sonny Rollins – tenor saxophone, Wynton Kelly – piano, Doug Watkins – bass, Philly Joe Jones – drums.
VINYL plays with consistent medium-level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with occasional pops and ticks. But ensemble sections are very clear, dynamic and strong with clean transients and full tone. First track of each side most noisy, then diminishes. No distortion. No skips. Good gloss. Handful of hairline marks, 3 feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The “47 West 63rd” labels are clean with spindle wear. Original inner sleeve included. See photos.
LAMINATED COVER is in good shape. Shows normal wear, corners very worn, some peeling. Laminate in good shape. Seams and mostly clean, cracking, small split on upper seam at opening. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23” back jacket shows much staining, tears and chipping of cardboard stock, aging, stains. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC CLEANER.
