'All Together Now'
Epic, UK, 1972
EPIC 64962
ALBUM NUMBER 3 from this extremely well respected British (Hertfordshire, based) progressive rock band fronted by keyboard wizzard Rod Argent with guitarist/songwriter Russ Ballard weaving an extra portion of magic.
The band's debut album had been something of an experimental affair introducing them - post Zombies of course - to the new world of progressive rock. 'Ring Of Hands' found the band in a far more comfident mood rising to the technical challenges like a beautiful mature Swan emerging from an ugly duckling. 'All Together Now' showcases a bigger, brassier band creating an album packed with wonderful twists and turns - Ballards songs stand bright and proud fully confirming his reputation as one of the world's greatest writers.
The album kicks off with one of the finest early seventies prog rock epics (and hit singles) 'Hold Your Head Up', a track bursting with life and, health and happiness. It is truly one of the most majestic peices of music ever created - a true prog anthem. Elswehere the material is just as hard hitting and dynamic with the killer punch being saved for 'Tragedy', a tight slice of heavy funk prog with one of the worlds greatest guitar riffs and keyboard support to die for. Great things going on elseweher too especially the ultra long suite 'Pure Love' and the raunchy 'Be My Lover Be My Friend'.
A wonderful album from one of the best British progressive rock bands on the scene at the time. Every collection should have a copy and this one is in super nice shape.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
