There have been so few vinyl LPs produced over the last 5 years that you should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever!  GETZ-GILBERTO - 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION OUT OF PRINT

Two names spring to mind upon hearing the words jazz and samba , namely those of Stan Getz and João Gilberto. But really one should be thinking of Antonio Carlos Jobim, who, with his composition from 1958 Chega de saudade, first created the type of Brazilian samba that is known today as bossa nova. It was with one of Jobim’s songs, Desafinado, that the bossa nova began its triumphant conquest of the USA. In 1962, Stan Getz made the work widely known when he recorded the number, together with Charlie Byrd, on his album Jazz Samba. It was this recording, along with Focus (1961), which was responsible for Getz’s definitive comeback in the USA at that same time. Jazz Samba opened the floodgates to a new musical vogue, and although cool jazz had been swept aside by hard bop, the reserved and melancholy touch of Getz’s style once again became all the rage. It is really not at all surprising, therefore, that the album Getz/Gilberto, recorded in March 1963 for the Verve label, was a winner right from the very start, bringing together as it did the two godfathers of samba Jobim and Gilberto with their American brother Getz. This music is like a pleasantly warm bath whose water is perfumed with essential oil, or like a mild summer night bathed in golden moonlight. The songs, all of them now classics in their own right, are filled with the joy of life, peace and harmony.

TIDE - 180 GRAM OUT OF PRINT LIMITED EDITION - TREMENDOUSLY RARE AUDIOPHILE PRESSING AND IS THE ANCHOR TO THIS COLLECTION

Are you looking for a little more samba, bossa and the like? And do you want it nice and rich, tenderly melting, and with a smoochy sound? Then this is just the LP for you! It has everything one needs for easy listening. Each side is filled with laid-back top hits, all brilliantly arranged and embedded in a gloriously smooth big-band sound - by no lesser magician than Deodato himself! And as you might have noticed from the recording date, there is the added bonus of that well-loved, soft-as-butter flute writing, little excursions on the sax, and thoughtful, crystal-clear solos on the Rhodes piano. Note the illustrious name of a thoroughbred jazzer on the side: Ron Carter, side-man to the young and wild Miles Davis, who here plucks away valiantly at the strings of his bass.

It is almost superfluous to mention that Rudy Van Gelder, the recording engineer, has taken supreme care to conjure up the very best sound quality. Now all you need is a good recordplayer and a quiet corner to sit back and enjoy this excellent album.

STONE FLOWER - 140 GRAM

Looking for the the holy grail of Downtempo ,lounge, neo-bossanova ? here it is! This absolutely timeless and fortunately saccarine free delight is all you need. Bossa-funk on the beach and intimate sexy whispers create an incedible sense of latin ennui longing, nostalgia and the pain of love.

This Jobim album was arranged by fellow Brazilian artist Deodato; the result is perhaps his best featured work (although my favorites are his collaborations with Sinatra and Getz/Gilberto). The combination of the two is brilliant, synergistic and wonderful; the selections are alive and are largely devoid of the "Muzak" quality of some of his other work. The Classic "Brazil" is recorded twice on the album. "Andorinha" evokes a sun-drenched beach. "God and the Devil in the Land of the Sun" is an epic gem. A great work which illuminates Jobim's genius.

Wave - 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE PRESSING

Expectations run high when a successful producer resigns his post to join a rival company. Things were no different in the case of Creed Taylor who left Verve for A&M, taking along the bossa guru Jobim. This liaison resulted in the album Wave, which Latin specialists regard as one of the most artistic ever, perhaps because Jobim rides the gentlest of waves in this particular recording. While the large instrumental ensemble might lead one to suspect that sensationalism was the aim here, listening to the music proves that Jobim has remained true to his clear melodies and his simple, sensitive style. A relaxed carpet of sound is rolled out which enhances and refines the essence of Jobim’s musical roots, turning them into miniature tone poems.
