This auction is for an early 20th Century wind up Gramophone made by Edward O`Brien of Coventry, England. I am told it is a Monarch design and has a fabulous Dark Green Morning Glory horn. Edward O`Brien was a celebrated bicycle manufacturer during the spring and summer months at the beginning of the last century and, as with a lot of companies of that era, they had a slack period over the autumn and winter months and he specialised in making gramophones to boost the business. On the front is the characteristic Edward O`Brien motif of the Three Spires of Coventry, although you can wind it and the platter goes round it is sold as not working. The base is approximately fifteen inches square, the horn diameter is twenty four inches and with the horn attached it stands thirty one inches high. It is made of English Oak wood, there is a speed dial, a brake, an arm rest and as you can see the nickel plate is in very good condition. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of these iconic gramophones and i`m sure would look very elegant in any room of your home.
