For some reason, the crew behind the Stratasonic label and AnIML project have always closely guarded their identities, preferring to refer to themselves as "accomplished and storied electronic artists". Their trademark sound is hard to pin down, though clearly draws a lot from the dusty trip-hop of DJ Cam, Alpha and Ninja Tune regulars of the late 90s and early 2000s. 'Unioness', their latest single, mines this rich seam, wrapping bittersweet synth strings, dreamy textures and heady samples around a deep, head-nodding groove. Alongside an alternative instrumental and chunkier 'Stoned Autipilot Dub', we also get a more club-focused interpretation from Chicago house legend DJ Sneak. His take is muscular, chunky and bass-heavy, with flashes of hip-hop breaks, dusty samples aplenty and a smattering of the crew's original instrumentation.
