Description
Up for sale is a 1950's CBD broadcast recording of "The Nation's Nightmare" with cover art by Andy Warhol.
Record: Labels very clean. Side A is VG+ with very few light surface marks and has some background static. Side B has one light mark across half of the record and two small hairlines that causes intermittent pops but are very light and do not overpower speech. Sleeve: There is a 2"x1" stain at lower right corner. Small piece of black residue that could be cleaned toward center. Moderate corner creasing/wear. Seam split left edge 3"
This album is a recording of a CBS Radio Series broadcast from July 19th and August 16th, 1951 (Repeated on September 13th and September 27th, 1951)

The full-page advertisement in the New York Times that announced the second broadcast of the series featured a drawing by Andy Warhol of a young man shooting up. The following year, 1952, an album was released of two of the series' episodes - episode one about the illicit drug trade and episode six about organised crime infiltration of the Longshoreman's Union. Andy Warhol's illustrations appeared on the cover of the album. Warhol's illustrations also featured on the centre label of the album. The "Traffic in Narcotics" illustration was side 1, the "Crime on the Waterfront" illustration on Side 2. Bill Downs is quoted on the the website as saying, "the album “is valuable because the cover art was designed by a then-unknown Andy Warhol, who in 1951 won a contest in New York held to design the cover.” Warhol was not unknown at the time. In his first couple of years in New York he had designed three previous album covers, in addition to his magazine work.
