primal 1968 Texas psychedelic LP

The road to becoming Z. Z. Top left some pretty cool records in its wake. Billy Gibbons would be in a string of little bands, the biggest of them being the very significant Moving Sidewalks who were kings of the psychedelic scene in Houston, Texas. The other 2/3 of the Z. Z. Top to be were up in Dallas, playing in groups too. The Warlocks cut a pair of singles before becoming the American Blues. At the end of 1967 they trekked out to Tyler to record in the same studios where Mouse & The Traps were cutting their records.

The result was this Lp on Karma Records. Nine tracks that clearly showed the band were dabbling in something more than just beer and imagination. The limited pressing of the record didn't get it heard much outside of Texas, but somehow it caught the ears of Uni Records who signed the band to a one album deal. Perhaps it was Bill Ham of the Yellow Payges who refereed them.

After that second album failed, the group were shown the door at Uni and not much later met Billy Gibbons who was also looking for something new. A short introduction turned into a three hour jam session which cascaded into a 30+ year career.

So if you've heard the Moving Sidewalks, you're due to hear what the other 2 guys were doing at the same time. This is an original pressing (no fakes or reissues here!) and is in great condition. It's been part of my personal collection since the mid '70s. The lineup on the Lp is Frank Beard, Dusty Hill as well as Rocky Hill and Doug Davis.
