Few bands captured the strange emotional blur of post-Y2K indie rock quite like Texas group The American Analog Set. Across the records collected here, the band reduced slowcore, krautrock and bedroom-pop down to their faintest pulse. ‘Punk As Fuck’ still sounds beautifully understated in its deadpan irony, and ‘Know By Heart’, ‘Promise Of Love’ and ‘Born On The Cusp’ move with the sort of slow-motion melancholy that became the group’s signature. Even the longer instrumental excursions on Everything Ends In Spring feel suspended in amber. Two decades later, these recordings still carry a peculiar warmth.
