The is a modern instrument, created about twenty years ago by the rebel of the region of Wassoulou (Mali). Rough, packed with emotion, it finds here the sound of its rebel origins. With regard to the current Wassoulou musical "variety", the Aliou Fané / Daouda Sangaré / Djuru Diallo trio symbolizes a ferocious attachment to its roots, and at the same time to a great creative freedom.

Throughout all of Mali, hunters ("") have a status of their own. Their Brotherhood is placed above any ethnic, religious or caste-oriented rifts. It is the oldest traditional institution in Mali. The music is generally reduced to two instruments, the (a piece of iron that is scraped) and the ("hunter's n'goni" with three strings) which accompanies the songs with the insistent repetition of its three notes. A flute can be added to these instruments. The songs function is primarily to reassure and encourage the members of the expedition during those long evenings spent in the bush, without the slightest shelter or protection.

In the very beginning of the seventies, a "profane" version of the appears. Who was the first to have the idea? History has retained several names : Alata Broulaye, Fadougou Seydou, Yacouba Koné, Satigué Sidibé… One thing is certain: they are all very young and out to have a good time. On moonlight evenings and in their village "parties", they attempted to use the to get the women dancing, but the hunters accused them of desacralizing an instrument reserved for males and heroic sagas. 

So they constructed a similar instrument, but with different chords. All is not without its rough patches. Satigui Sidibé, nineteen years old at the time, is expelled from the brotherhood of hunters for one year, and then is readmitted. 

Yoro Diallo remembers having been a victim of a bad fate, having had several instruments successively reduced to bits by his parents…

In the eighties, a just reversal of things: the becomes the symbol of a new movement that tries to shake up the neo-colonial mentality. They reject the wooden language of the , and their eternal praise for corrupted elite. The texts of the Wassoulou music are closer to the people, the rough and rusty sound of the expresses a rebel aesthetic, close to the earth, the shanty town. In the studios, they fight over the virtuosi, who become the "guitar hero's" of Wassoulou "rock". Starting from the end of the eighties, this success will lead to a bastardization of the genre, with the eruption of synthetizers and sampler rhythms.

Rediscovering the acoustic dimension and restoring the sound of the rebel hunters in all its rusty splendour is the vocation of the present recording.

Zani Diabaté, prominent guitar player in the Super Djata Band, one of the most popular bands from Bamako during the 1980s, joined the Ballet National in 1963, where he sang, danced and played guitar, kora, balafon and percussion. In his spare time, he would play in Harmonica Jazz, where he played harmonica, and later he formed the Ganoua Band with Daouda Sangaré on kamalen n'goni and on vocals, and with Maré Sanogo on djembé. In the early 1970s, the Ganoua Band was appointed the third National Orchestra of Mali (Formation C). When they were left without work, Zani and his fellow band members decided to switch to a private band which they named (Super) Djata Band. It was in 1974 that they started recording for Radio Mali.

Prominent singer Daouda "Flani" Sangaré was invited to join the Ballet National in 1968, where he introduced his friend Alou Fané. The two recorded more traditional influenced kamalen n'goni music together for Radio Mali in 1968, a recording that was later released by the Ivorian label Disco Club Bagoué.

The sound of Super Djata, based on the, compared to the mellow malinke sound of for instance the Rail Band, hard hitting Bambara rhythms and melodies, is highly coloured by the outstanding guitar playing by Zani Diabaté.

Since the late 1980s, band members Dounanké Koita and Bamba Dembélé left the Super Djata Band and started solo careers. Zani was appointed since a few years as the director of the National Ballet du Mali and played only occasionally. He left the Super Djata Band to his son. Sadly, Zani passed away in January 2011 after brain damage he suffered from a stroke on 9 December 2010, when entering a Paris studio in order to record with his son and Flani's son. Flani, Alou and his brother Bakary preceded him years ago.

NM (NEAR MINT) : Near perfect copy, played only a few times. At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws.The highest grade I give for a non-sealed record / Disque et pochette impéccables, a joué seulement quelques fos. Au pire, une ou deux traces insignifiantes. C'est le grade le plus haut que je donne pour un disque non scellé.

EX (EXCELLENT) : Clean copy, there may be a few very light  surface traces/hairlines, it may plays with a few tiny crackles, cover has minor defaults. / Disque en excellent état, possibilité de très lègères traces ou lignes en surface, événtuellement quelques grésillement/craquements insignifiants, pochette avec défauts mineurs....

VG++ (VERY GOOD++) : A few light surface traces/scuffs, plays with very light crackles. There may be a few traces or marks on the cover, corners or slices slightly worn...Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults / Très bon état dans l'ensemble, avec de légères traces et rayures en surface, très légers craquements audibles. Quelques traces ou marques possibles sur la pochette, coins ou tranches légèrement usées. Rien de sérieux mais assez de petits défauts pour ne pas être classé EX.

VG- (VERY GOOD MINUS) : Played a lot and more (but still playable), a lot of scuffs, marks, and traces, a lot of crackles while playing, sometimes serious, may have a few serious scuffs with serious clicks (no jumps). The cover is in a bad state, damaged... / Disque très utilisé (mais peut l'être encore...), beaucoup de griffes, de traces et de marques, peut avoir de sérieuses rayures , avec de sérieux craquements, ne saute pas. La pochette est en mauvais état, endommagée...

G (GOOD) : Indeed, not so good...but still alive ! Played while his entire life (and once again today !), or really ill-traited...A lot of serious traces, marks and scuffs, serious crackles and surface noise, serious clicks, may have jumps...The cover is really in a very bad state too, even no entire...Must be very rare to be proposed in this state... / En effet, pas si bon...mais encore vivant ! Utilisé durant sa vie entière (et aujourd'hui encore !), ou vraiment maltraité...Beaucoup de sérieuses traces, marques et rayures, sérieux craquements et bruits de surface, rayé et peut même sauter quelques fois...La pochette est aussi en très mauvais état, peut même ne pas être entière...Vraiment une rareté pour être présenté dans cet état...
