Fantastic 1988 UK issue of some really tough blues sides from the late 1940s & early 1950s. The big one here is the then recently discovered 1946 track by Muddy Waters (issued on a 78 as James Carter). Backed by a full band complete with horns this is an early take of his classic "Mean Red Spider" and shows Muddy to be a very sophisticed blues man. Apart from the slide no signs of the country boy at all. It's not just intersting it's great as are all the other tracks here.
