· ALBERT KING (with the entire BOOKER T. & THE MG’S) – BORN UNDER THE BAD SIGN - ORIGINAL 1967 STAX RECORDS STEREO LP S-723
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· RARE ORIGINAL FOR-EXPORT PRESSING TO U.K. (THE ALBUM HAS UK IMPORT STICKER). PLEASE NOTE: BECAUSE STAX ALBUMS OVERSEAS WERE DISTRIBUTED BY ATLANTIC RECORDS (UK), THE ALBUM COMES WITH ORIGINAL STAX RECORD, BUT PACKAGED IN ATLANTIC COVER, WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT CATALOG NUMBER (THE CATALOG NUMBER ON THE RECORD IS STAX’S S-723, WHILE THE CATALOG NUMBER ON THE COVER IS ATLANTIC’S SD-7723)
· PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE TWO (SEEMINGLY, BUT DECEPTIVELY, SIMILAR) ORIGINAL STAX PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM: THE ORIGINAL 1967 PRESSING PRINTED AT ATLANTIC’S PRESSING PLANTS AND THE 1968 PRESSING PRESSED AT COLUMBIA’S PLANTS (FOR REASONS UNKNOWN TO US MORTALS, THE PRICE GUIDES DO NOT DISTINGUISH OR DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE TWO); THERE ARE SUBTLE DIFFERENCES IN LABEL TEXTURE, MATRIX NUMBER AND VINYL THICKNESS BETWEEN THE TWO PRESSINGS: THE ATLANTIC PRESSINGS HAVE THICKER VINYL, SLIGHTLY LIGHTER (LEMON YELLOW) LABEL, BLOCK FONT ON THE LABEL, AND CRUDELY HAND-ETCHED MATRIX STAMP; THE COLUMBIA PRESSINGS - WHICH WERE ISSUED DURING A BRIEF TRANSITIONAL PERIOD IN 1968 BETWEEN STAX’S TERMINATION OF ATLANTIC’S DISTRIBUTION CONTRACT AND THEIR ACQUISITION BY GULF+WESTERN CO. HAVE THINNER VINYL, MACHINE STAMP, GOLDEN-YELLOW LABEL AND SLIGHTLY ELONGATED (ALMOST ITALICS) FONT ON THE LABEL (COLUMBIA-PRESSED MONO COPIES ARE NOT BELIEVED TO EXIST). ATLANTIC PRESSINGS OF THIS TITLE IS IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE SUPERIOR TO THE COLUMBIA PRESSING. WE STRESS THAT THE ORIGINAL STAX/ATLANTIC PRESSING SHOULD NOT, REPEAT, NOT BE CONFUSED FOR THE SHORT-LIVED 1970 ATLANTIC REISSUE ON GREEN AND ORANGE LABEL. WE HAVE ORIGINAL 1967 ATLANTIC PRESSING HERE
· ORIGINAL YELLOW STAX LABEL WITH “STACK OF RECORDS” LOGO
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)
· COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK (CELLOPHANE) WRAP
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING

Here it is, folks: Albert King's FIRST Stax album – and undoubtedly the single greatest album of his career - the phenomenal 1967 "Born under the bad sign" album , which he recorded with Booker T. & the MG's (still one of the top-5 best blues recordings of all time, period!). If you have never heard this album before, you owe it to yourself to go check it out. We present to you the guitar player whom no less of a guitar genius as Jimi Hendrix cited as his idol (not to mention: covered the title track himself).
***
Born Under a Bad Sign was the first album Albert King recorded on Stax, and the title song became a blues standard. King played a Gibson Flying V through a solid-state Acoustic amplifier; his tone on the second song, "Crosscut Saw," was hailed in 2004 by Guitar Player magazine as one of the "50 Greatest Tones of All Time."
Eric Clapton closely imitated the solo of "Crosscut Saw" for Cream's song "Strange Brew" and the band covered the title song for their 1968 album Wheels of Fire. Led Zeppelin incorporated elements of "The Hunter" into "How Many More Times" from their self-titled debut album. The vocal melody from "As The Years Go Passing By" inspired Duane Allman's composition of the main riff from "Layla" from Derek and the Dominos' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Glenn Danzig covered "The Hunter" on Danzig.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that they are NOT audible.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
