AKPITAE OR AKRITAS, ON GREEK POLYDOR (2421031) 1973. An extremely rare psych prog piece out of Greece, an incredible album, I used to put this on and it would really bring down the house, nobody could figure out who it was, and I didn't tell them. This is the original Greek release.first pressing, with gatefold cover (and original Greek Phonogram inner).Freak Emporium in the UK had this to say:
" Amongst the most ambitious and best Greek progressive albums, this 1973 release is a tremendous concoction of dynamic and effortlessly shifting complex rhythm changes, multi-instrumental layers and musical textures. With individual segments ranging from Garcia-like guitar, pomp chuch organ, jazz, baroque, piano recital, thundering drums, soaring melodic vocals... And probably a kitchen sink, it is somewhat comparable with the finest ELP, Gentle Giant and Zappa, but at the same time totally unique! A mega prog killer!!"
while Dutch prog specialists Hemispheres stumbled through this pretty lofty praise:
" The album that outshone all others in 1973(A huge call, but this album has attracted this sort of praise from MANY other prog fanatics, and reviewers.), was without any doubt the only one by AKRITAS, which moves within an unpredictable experimental progressive direction. The many elements from the Greek traditional folk music, especially in guitar playing, the unusual and excellent compositions, and the intense improvisation put the record in the first line of importance.(They're not wrong there!) The principal composer of the group was Stavros Logaridis while the few lyrics were signed by the director Kostas Ferris, who had also written the lyrics for Aphrodite's Child's "666" concept double album. The Akritas line-up was Giorgos Tsoupakis - drums, Stavros Logaridis - vocal, bass, acoustic guitar, Aris Tasoulis - piano, organ, VSC 3 synthesizer, and Dimos Papachristou - electric guitar"

" Akritas must surely rank among the best groups ever to have hit the Greek scene, if one is to judge by their - admittedly very rare - eponymous debut album. The LP is chock-full of underground progressive rock akin to the sounds that can be found on albums by Aardvark, Arcadium and even Emerson Lake & Palmer. Apart from Logarides, other people in the band were keyboards player Aris Tasoulis (ex-Despina Glezou), guitarist Dimis Papachristou, drummer Giorgos Tsoupakis (who in the eighties went on to play with Panos Dracos) and organist John Papadopoulos). Sadly, apart from a single, this 1973 release was to be their only re-corded output, for soon after this excellent band split up due to general indifference. Might I say, this is all Greek to me. now as to the condition, this is one of the records that I set aside, it looked terrible, with tiny cobweb like lines and what looks like two long lines on side two, but I just listened and was pleasantly surprised, there is a minor bit of background noise here and there, not so bad though, what few minor ticks there are have been gobbled up by the pure gigantic noise this band puts out, so in just a few of the quiet places you can hear an occasional tick, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, it was good enough for me to make myself a cdr of it, so I rate the cover very good++ with minor rubbing on the left rib, and the original price sticker ($5.75) the vinyl looks like very good, but sounds very good+ at least, I tend to exadgerate, so don't get too worried.

Don't you love the new listing format Ebay has, I was going to list about 10 lps tonight, but the days of eaze of operation are over, no more simplicity, that's what they call progress, it only took me 30 minutes to list what I used to do in 2 minutes, isn't it great!!!!!!

Canada is $8.00, rest of world $12.00, $2.00 for each additional item, I ship Global Priority where possible. 12.00 Global Priority, $2.00 each additional item. Some countries do not have Global Priority, in that case items will be shipped Air Letter Post for $10.00, $2.00 each additional item, Shipping to Poland is $16.00 Global Priority, $3.00 each additional item.

Grading Definitions:

Mint (M): Absolutely perfect in every way - never played, possibly sealed. (Mint grading used sparingly if at all)
Near Mint (NM or M-): Near Mint is the highest grade listed in all Goldmine guides. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this, implying (perhaps correctly) that no record is ever truly perfect. The record shows no obvious signs of wear. Lp should look new, just purchased. No creases, folds, seam splits or visual defects.

Very Good Plus (VG +): Very Good Plus will show signs that it was played, and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show slight signs of wear and may have scuffs or light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. (Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK) NOTE: None of my records are warped!!!!!

Very Good (VG): Many of the defects found in VG + will be more pronounced on a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during intros and fades, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches that will affect the sound. This is the lowest price grade used by Goldmine listings, no need to go any lower than Very Good (VG) I won't sell it if it's not at least Very Good!

Please remember, these are records and not cds, and even a mint copy of a record will have a minimal amount of surface noise, the more +++ after very good, the closer the record is to near mint, I don't think any record is mint unless it is still sealed, and even in that case, there are some manufacturers who have poor quality vinyl, I'll try to indicate this when I can, I won't try to rip you off, I will do my very best to give you an accurate description, and will do my very best to assist you in any way I can, I want you to have a pleasant experience and that is my main goal, so have fun, and please, ask me any questions you may have before you bid, I'll try to give you all the info I can! - THE DROOGSTER
