LP MINT & UNPLAYED (RE-PRESS)

After hearing this 1969 proto-prog album I was really shocked to find out that these guys were not from the early UK progressive scene, but instead were from Tallahassee, Florida of all places. Sporting a cover that looks like it could have been something issued by Vertigo or Deram, this album sounds very English to me, like a combination of the bands Indian Summer, Hannibal, and Warm Dust (even though After All does not have horns). The compositions are generally well written (even though there is some weaker material towards the end of the album), and the playing is creative, with some jazzy flourishes, most notably in the guitar and Hammond organ parts. For me, "Nothing Left To Do" is the stand-out track, and I have to wonder if Bloodrock had heard this before they wrote their song "Breach of Lease". All in all, this is a very good listen for people who enjoy the early 70's UK proto prog style.
