THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST ALBUMS ON THE HIGHLY COLLECTABLE VERTIGO SWIRL LABEL. IT FEATURES AMAZING VOCALS FROM LINDA HOYLE WHO WENT ON TO RELEASE HER OWN MEGA-RARE VERTIGO SOLO ALBUM "PIECES OF ME" THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

Condition:

Vinyl Record: VG+ [ VISUALLY THE HEAVY, GLOSSY BLACK VINYL IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THERE ARE FEW LIGHT hairlines MARKS & SCUFFS,couple mini tiny scratches but no jumps or sticks ] WHAT A TREAT!!

Swirl Labels: EX THE VERTIGO "SWIRL" LABELS ARE BOTH IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH SOME very LIGHT SPINDLE MARKS,faded store stamp on one side.

Gatefold cover jacket: VG [ THE BEAUTIFUL, UN-LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE IS IN VERY GOOD STILL SOLID CONDITION. THERE IS JUST SOME RUBBING WEAR TO THE EDGES AND CORNERS,NAME WRITING ON TOP RIGHT,LIGHT WATER STAIN ON THE BOTTOM COVER FRONT AND BACK,YELLOW TAPING WEAR ON BOTTOM FRONT DOWN RIGHT CORNER AND MORE TAPES WEAR ON THE BACK COVER AND THE INSIDE OF THE GATEFOLD  WITH SOME TEARS WEAR ONLY ON THE BOTTOM SIDES INSIDE GATEFOLD  PROBABLY FROM THE STAIN AND SOME RING WEAR]- CONTAINS LYRICS AND ILLUSTRATIONS BAND NEGATIVE PHOTO INSIDE GATEFOLD!!

Formed in 1970, Affinity broke the British jazz-rock mold by combining the hauntingly powerful vocals of Linda Hoyle ( lauded by critics as the British Grace Slick) and the Hammond wizardry of Lynton Naiff (considered the rising star of jazz-pop in the style of Brian Auger) with convincing elements of psych and blues, often close to that of Julie Driscoll & the Trinity. Unfortunately, despite the critical acclaim the band received at the time, they only stayed around long enough to release one LP.

Like many bands riding on the crest of the jazz-rock wave in the early '70s, AFFINITY released one album and were just getting their footing when they decided to split up, despite the album being well received by the critics. They were fronted by Lynda Hoyle, a powerful vocalist who sounds like a cross between Carol King and Julie Driscoll. The other band members were Mo Foster (bass), Mike Jupp (electric and 12-string guitars), Lynton Naiff (keyboards) and Grant Serpell (drums and percussion). Basically, their music is an eclectic mixture of a blues-rock with jazz, pop and folk influences as well as some rudiments of early '70s psychedelia. Their sound is very brassy and the Hammond organ omnipresent, the overall product sounding very progressive for its day.Issued in 1970, their only official (self-titled) album shows much variety as well as plenty of soloing. As the excellent sound, musicianship and production will attest, it is a superb achievement for the times.

Recommended for collectors of late '60s/early '70s psych - blues - tinged prog!!!
