Matrix Numbers

This is an extremely rare German Vertigo Swirl pressing with a laminated gatefold cover (nearly all German manufactured  Vertigo LPs had laminated covers) with 6360 004 printed on the top right hand corner of the rear cover. The inside is unlaminated.

I've never seen another one like this before. German 1st pressings generally had a large swirl label on Side A - this one has a small swirl label on both sides - see scans. I am told it is probably a 1st German made pressing but destined for export (usually Austria, Switzerland and/or Eastern Europe) - using different labels to differentiate them from those for the German domestic market where sales tax would need to be paid.

This might also account for why there is no letter 'D' after the catalogue number on the rear cover; and for the inclusion of Warner Brothers etc on the labels, where Vertigo has used another company's distribution channels in countries where they themeselves are not operational. Needless to say, demand in these other 'export' destined countries was very low at the time for prog rock, so it is very unlikely that many of these were pressed.

 If anyone knows for definite (no guesswork thanks) then do please let me know and I will add the information to the listing.

Cover: Laminated gatefold cover is Excellent+. No  writings, doodles or seam splits. German pressings did not come with 'swirl' inner sleeves - this is one is a new plain white poly-lined replacement sleeve as the original inner sleeve was too far gone to be of any use.

Labels: Excellent - no writings, doodles or stickers just a little grubby. Not a large swirl label but with a small swirl on both sides together with track listings on each side - see scans.

Vinyl: Play tested.

Side A looks 'Good'. There is a non-feelable scratch running across the first track and part of the second. Doesn't seem to have that much effect. Also has some feathering and light hairlines. Side A plays 'VG' with light crackle - mainly between tracks and during quieter moments - no skips or jumps. 

Side B looks 'VG' with light feathering. Side B plays 'Good' to VG(-)' - no skips/jumps but does have some crackle (and occasional pops) throughout much of the record - hence the low starting price.

Gradings......

Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratches.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and more significant scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
