Released in May 1978, Powerage is widely considered by rock critics, audiophiles, and musicians alike—including Keith Richards and Malcolm Young himself—to be AC/DC’s rawest and most cohesive studio effort. It marks the studio debut of bassist Cliff Williams, whose rock-solid, driving low end locked perfectly into rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young's textbook chord structures and Phil Rudd's metronomic drumming. Fronted by the razor-sharp lyrics and bluesy snarl of Bon Scott, alongside the blazing, frantic lead guitar work of Angus Young, the album captures a hungry band on the absolute precipice of worldwide stadium superstardom.
