Description
Roscoe Mitchell - "Sound"; Delmark New Music Series DL-408; rec 1966; mono. LP Ex-NM; sleeve VG+, some ringwear, bump upper left corner, some writing upper left corner back of of sleeve.
Until this release Delmark had been known primarily as a blues and straight ahead jazz label. Encouraged by Chuck Nessa (manager of the Jazz Record Mart and later a producer himself), Koester began recording the music of the nascent Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). This marked Koester's foray into the new music, and featured one of the great sax players of that generation of avant garde players - Roscoe Mitchell. This disc also features AACM luminaries such as Maurice McIntyre, Lester Bowie, and Malachi Favors (the latter two, along with Mitchell, Joseph Jarman and Don Moye went on to form the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago. The is truly a seminal record of that period.
