Description
Hello. Up for sale are eight 12” radio promo discs and one 10” disc. I’m selling off my radio ad disc collection, so here’s your chance to buy some unusual records. In this batch you'll find lots of great ads.
Here’s what you’ll get:
- The F&M Schaefer Brewing Company, 1951, 10” disc, 78rpm. Side One is a single track message (perhaps about 3-4 minutes in length) from RJ Schaeffer. He tells listeners that last year Schaeffer sold more beer than ever and this year they’re unveiling a new ad campaign for radio and TV: “Make It Clear, Make It Schaeffer.” Because as we all know, “advertising sells.” Side Two has five promo spots – all involving the new song/jingle “Make It Clear…” There’s one :15, three :30, and one :60 spot. The :60 spot is great because it begins with the lyrics “Who’s on third, What’s on second, That’s a gag you all recall…” The first :30 of the spot is a song, the last :30 is an announcer touting the beer.
- Ward Baking Company Wheat ‘n Honey Bread Commercials, single-sided, Olmstead Sound Studios, 1 East 54th Street, New York 22, NY. All remaining discs are 12” and play at 33 1/3 rpm. Four spots on this one, :60, :30, :20, and :10.
- Italian Swiss Colony Arriba Wine, ET# R-6044, single-sided, Honig-Cooper and Harrington Adv., San Francisco 8, Yukon 6-5040, Produced by John Wolfe & Company. Contains three :60 spots for wine; all appear to be identical. Nat King Cole sings for about :40 in this ad, then introduces himself and speaks about the wine "with the bongo drums on the label."
- Aunt Jemima Flour, U-8819, Universal Recording Corporation, Chicago. Cuts 1&2 are :60 jingle w/vocal, Cuts 2&5 are :60 Instrumental, and Cuts 3&6 are both around 2 minutes in length with a combination of Jingle and Instrumental. GREAT stuff on this disc.
- Jacob’s Mobile Homes, The Balaban Station for Milwaukee, WRIT radio, No. 303, 3-31-59, double-sided. Side one contains nine spots for Mobile Homes. Side two contains four spots. The WRIT label is pasted over an Audiodisc label.
- Yager Liniment, Baltimore 10, Maryland, Finn & Evans Advertising, single-sided. One :60 spot and seven :20 spots with subtitles such as: feet, muscles, arthritis-rheumatism, back, and theme. “Rotate Spots til forbid” is typed on the label.
- Hamm’s Beer, CM Advertising, Campbell-Mithun, Inc, Minneapolis 2, FE 9-7383, CM-752-HA, KB 25594, 7-30-61, double-sided. Each side contains four :60 spots with subtitles such as: Totem, Tom Tom; Refreshingest; College March; Hear, Hear - Shuffle; Hear, Hear – Swing; Hear, Hear – Dixieland; and Good News Revival. GREAT Hamm’s ads with that very familiar jingle for those old enough to remember.
- Van Heusen’s “Give Your Neck a Break.” RW 1009, double-sided. Spots mostly involve husband and wife narratives. Probably from the 1950s. There are twelve :30 spots in all.
- ENO, Harold F. Ritchie, #117800, J. Walter Thompson Company, Lexington Ave, New York 17, RKO-WOR Sound Studios, NY, single-sided. Four identical :60 spots, November 16, 1959. First a husband and wife talk about all of the food they ate at a party and now the wife has an upset stomach. The husband is okay because he drank ENO before going to bed. Then the announcer comes in to tout “Sparkling ENO.” Finally there’s a 10-second jingle “When you’re feeling low, ENO…”
