A collection of nine US private pressings consisting of a mix of rock, power pop, AOR, prog, psych and Lounge.
First Legg, 'Torn & Frayed', Rabid Records, Canada, !980
CANADIAN POWER pop unit working the same ground as Milk 'N Cookies, The Beckies, early Lou Reed and pre Sparks band Half Nelson. In some circles this is classed as skinny-tie power pop making the new wave comparisons valid but not entirely accurate. Very rare. Grades as Ex/Mint
Cornell Hurd Band 'Doing That Unholy Roll', USA, 1980
STRANGE ONE - essentially its a hard rock six piece with a bar band mentality. Musically right across the board from hard rock to ballads and all points in between. I wouldn't say it's a corker but then how many of these private pressings are? Grades as Ex+/Ex+
Cornell Hurd Band 'Fever In The South', USA, 1981
AS ABOVE - second album from this Floridan bar band. No appear to be a seven piece fronted by Mr Hurd with a sound that still reaches acoss the musical divide from rock to trad rock 'n roll but with a definite bar band mentality. Grades as MINT - still in shrink!
Shekinah 'Today's The Day' Private, USA, 1979
NEVER SEEN this one anywhere before except in an Xian list years ago. Described as killer private AOR with a late 70s release date. Of course it isn't killer AOR and, in my opinion its not even psych, more like a rock bar band. Eight tracks with two that weigh in at an epic 6 minutes! Great sleeve. Grades as MINT/MINT!
Tapaztry 'S/T', USA, 1982
SOLD TO me as a killer unknown hard rock private progressive rock pressing but in reality turns out to be an inept early 80's lounge rock band with guitar, keyboards and a bit of flute. Won't win any awards but certainly interesting in a sort of obscure kind of way. Grades as MINT/MINT! Still in shrink!
Boy Wonder 'S/T', USA, 1982
DEFINITE HIGH energy power pop four piece with solid riffs and cool songs. Quite an exciting unit out of Cleevland Ohio with professional production - engineered by Dale Peters who was previously bassist in the James Gang! Great looking album sleeve. Grades as MINT-/MINT! With lyric insert. Still in shrink wrap!
Eden's Rebels 'S/T' Private, USA, 1985
ANOTHER ONE sold to me as a killer unknown hard rock private pressing but in reality turns out to be an inept mid 80's rock band with heavy guitar and a pocketful of hard rock riffs. Yes, its interesting but so is my big toe. Grades as MINT/MINT!
Diller & Anderson 'S/T', DNA, USA, 1983
FOISTED ON me by an unscrupulous eBay dealer as a sh*t kickin' Christian hard rock record... well guess what? It's a dud all round. The honest truth is that its of such benign namby pampy quality that you can't really hype it as a lost hard rock classic - more MOR/bar rock. GREAT full clour textured sleeve though! Grades as MINT-/MINT-. Complete with a double sided lyric insert.
Scepter 'S/T', Star Song, USA, 1982
EBAY SELLERS will say just about anything to make you part with your hard earned cash. This is another one that looks killer but sounds limp. Again, sold to me as another lost private hard rock private pressing. Turns out its an Xian rock band who are too frightened to actually kick out the jams in the sort of wild way that the cover suggests. Grades as Vg+/MINT-! With printed lyric inner sleeve.
