READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. 7-Lot Beatles Albums Revolver Through Hey Jude, Various Labels, VG to NM!

…keeping in mind that my VG grade does NOT allow for any scratches that can be felt with the fingertip.

I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

Here are some with lousy covers, but great playable vinyl.

1.  Revolver 1983 Black Capitol Label

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  Vinyl looks suspiciously unplayed.

Plates--- G34/G30.  Later Winchester Capitol insignia looks like a pubic hair.

Cover--- G.  Both sides have water damage pretty heavily.  Looks like the cover was peeled off of the one below and above it, tearing slick off both sides.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- NM/NM.  No spindle marks.

RIAA: None.

2.  Sgt. Pepper First Pressing Black Capitol Stereo 1967.  No Insert.

Vinyl--- Occupies the space between VG and VG+.  Better than VG for sure.  VG+ might be pushing it for a conservative grading.

Plates--- A10/A12.  Definitely first-issue plates.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this copy pressed in Los Angeles.

Cover--- G.  Front and back have moderate to heavy ringwear, light dirtwear.  Top and bottom seams have heavy shelfwear, but aren’t split.  Spine has moderate wear.  Gatefold look very good, but has a two-inch center seam split.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Light, short spindle marks only.

No insert, no gradient red inner sleeve.  Still a very respectable play copy.  Might need a cleaning/remoisturizing.

3.  Magical Mystery Tour First Pressing Apple with Capitol Logo, No Booklet.

Vinyl--- VG+.  Long, light lines only, none that are feelable.  Predominant new shine, both sides.

Plates--- B28/H31.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this copy pressed in Los Angeles.

Cover--- G.  Presents well with vibrant enough color.  But the booklet is completely missing, and there’s a 4-inch bottom seam split.  Gatefold has a 2-inch center seam split.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Light, short spindle marks only.

Still a very respectable play copy.  Might need a cleaning/remoisturizing.

4.  White Album Second Pressing Apple (Meaning No Errors) No Poster or Photos A2828618

Vinyl--- VG/VG.  VG/VG.  All four sides have lots of very light short scratches only.  Nothing you can feel with the fingertip.  Still plenty of original shine.

Plates--- J44/J49. J63/J49.  Hand-etched letter “O” in the dead waxes on both sides of both discs makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- G.  Cover has light to moderate yellowing, not bad.  Spine has completely browned.  One top pocket split almost halfway down, the other split about two inches.  Both bottom pockets have one-inch splits at the mouth. 

Gatefold has moderate foxing and dirtwear, but NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Labels--- EX/EX.  EX/EX.  All four labels look beautiful.

5.  Yellow Submarine 1978 Purple Capitol Label, Beautiful Copy!

Vinyl--- EX/NM.  Side 1 has two short, very light scuffs in the first track.  Otherwise, the rest of the two sides look unplayed.

Plates--- G41/J48.  Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.

Cover--- VG.  Moderate to heavy yellowing.  Light shelfwear on the seams, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.  Cover looks like a first pressing, since there’s no round Capitol logo at the bottom.

Labels--- EX/EX.  A few light, short spindle marks only.

6.  Abbey Road First Pressing Apple, In-House Jax Labels

Vinyl--- VG/VG.  Both sides have lots of very light short scratches only.  None are feelable with the fingertip.

Plates--- A12/B21.  Hand-etched letter “O” in the dead waxes on both sides of both discs makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- G.  Heavy ringwear on both front and back.  All seams have heavy shelfwear, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- EX/EX.  A few light, short spindle marks only.

7.  Hey Jude 1978 Purple Capitol Label

Vinyl--- VG-/EX.  Side 1 has a LOT of heavy scuffs, none of which are feelable with the fingertip.  One quarter-inch scratch in the first track which IS feelable.  Side 2 only has two or three very light scuffs in a sea of new-looking vinyl.

Plates--- H6/F5.  Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.

Cover--- VG.  Presents VG++, but the top and bottom seams have heavy shelfwear.  Spine has a one-inch split.  Light record outdent, light dirtwear.

Labels--- EX/EX.  A few light, short spindle marks only.

As these records are untested, expect them to play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
