I have sold about ten 78s on Ebay. Generally I don't deal in them because I keep the day-to-day popular music of the 1920s to play on my collection of restored phonographs from that period. On rare occasion, I find a collectable jazz record that has historical significance to musical scholars. Those are the records I chose to sell on Ebay. I am not a dedicated collector of exceptional or high-dollar 78s.
I am not an expert record grader. This particular disc I would say is a "V" defined as: Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
When I listened to the disc, I could clearly hear all of the instruments, especially the piano and its bass notes, and the music was quite listenable.
Since the time portal to the 1920s is not open and operable yet, collectors have little choice but to buy used items from that era. You are buying an original copy of a jazz recording from the era in which it was recorded as a historical artifact. The record has been played over its many decades of existence. If you are bidding on this auction, you will understand this is not a new, unplayed, pristine record. If you are extremely concerned about sound quality, I suggest you download a transcription of this music from iTunes.
