Description

I am not an auction house or a collector. I am listing because our family has not much use for this type of item. Many collectable items were left to us by our forebears. We decided we prefer to pay a few bills rather than hold onto something others may have much more interest in having for their collections.
My starting price is based on similar items found through searching popsike.com and other sources.
I am trying to be fair to both buyer (you) and seller (me), without a ridiculous buy it now price.

I have a hundred or more 78s from the teens to late 30s slowing getting listed.
All have been kept vertically in record storage boxes with plastic outer sleeve protectors.
Unfortunately, all of the original sleeves were lost years ago.
I will try to clean for good photos but I would recommend a thorough cleaning once received.
Unless otherwise noted - all discs are very good to very good+ with no chips, cracks, peeling labels or spindle-hole damage.
Bear in mind I am not an expert on 78s.

12" RCA Victor pressing from around 1937. Not really sure what it is although it appears to be a melodic auctioneer's chant ending with the catchphrase "Sold American!" This is a one-sided disc with etched designs and 'RCA VICTOR' on the b side. There's a seller on Amazon asking $300 but I doubt the value is that high.

The sound of the words "Sold American!" was the way many people came to know L. A. "Speed" Riggs. A son of tobacco country, he gained his nickname for the lightening-speed chant he mastered to become one of the nation's premier tobacco auctioneers as well as a radio and early television personality. In 1937, news of his distinctive voice reached New York City and the offices of George Washington Hill, president of the American Tobacco Company. Mr. Hill traveled by train to Durham to hear Speed selling tobacco at the Liberty Warehouse. After listening to the young auctioneer for a short time, Mr. Hill offered Speed a job to become "The Voice of Lucky Strike" for the American Tobacco Company. Speed asked for $550 a week, and for Liberty Warehouse to auction for charity. He was signed to a twenty-year renewable contract.

All 78s will be shipped via USPS media mail unless otherwise requested. I will ship using the 'sandwich' method (special thanks to vincentdrakeharman for the tips!) to prevent damage.

Thanks for looking!
