I am offering this item from my 30 year collection of 85,000 45s; items scavenged from thrift shoppes, record haunts, garage sales. It is my intent to work all the way thru my collection, A-Z, listing single items and clumps of 45's by artist/group. (Please note I am skipping most singer/songwriter, rock band and mellow 'MOR' 50s/60s stuff if it doesn't seem exceptional. I'm also running past many country singers from the 70s-80s. Scans show part of my two rooms of music, plus the white box style we use to pack all items. While record suggestions are always appreciated, we sell only by auction. Please note, I cannot play thru all tracks and all B sides listening for defects to report. Condition notes are often based on look of grooves and how needle tracks in dead wax/first seconds of play. SOUNDS LIKE: CALLED 'THE PUNK RECORDING OF THE 60'S' ON ONE INTERNET SITE. Here is the rundown on Fuzz Acid and Guitars by Joyner: Although The Brogues lifespan extended a mere nine months, and their recorded output was limited to just two 45s, they are remembered some thirty years on as one of the best sixties punk bands - and as a precursor to Quicksilver Messenger Service.

The Brogues formed towards the end of '64, playing their first gig on News Years Eve that year and quickly gathering a following in their home town of Merced, California. It wasn't long before they cut a couple of demo tracks at a studio in Fresno, and the Hush label picked up on the stronger of them, Someday. (The other track, Journey is reputedly a poor instrumental which sounds like a TV theme tune). They were quickly signed up by Hush who prompted them to re-record the track at Coast Recorders, San Francisco for their first 45. Although Someday wasn't typically representative of the bands sound - being more of a folk-rocker, it's still pretty decent and the flip is more akin to their Brit-Invasion influences.

The 45 was a local hit around Bakersfield and Fresno, and they even got to play alongside bands such as the Zombies and plug the 45 on an L.A. TV show. It was also around this time that they recruited (pinched) Gary Grubb from another local group The Ratz, his vocal style fitting The Brogues penchance for "American music with a British accent", i.e. Brit Invasion styled R&B revved up with passion and ferocity.

Someday was licensed by major indie Challenge, and the new label took them to L.A. to record a follow-up - Miracle Worker being selected from a pile of demo acetates and the flip Don't Shoot Me Down being written by the band almost on the spot.

This epic punk 45, should have burned up the charts, but unfortunately The Brogues were in the hands of bigger forces... within a few weeks Eddie and Rick had received draft notices and had no option to quit. With the heart torn out of the band, auditions were held, but it was quickly realised that the magic could not be re-constructed, and they decided to disband.

Greg and Gary decided to stay in San Francisco, forming Quicksilver Messenger Service, whilst Bill went on to Family Tree, together with ex-Ratz member Bob Segarini.

Compilation coverage has so far included: Both sides of both their 45s plus the demo version of Someday on The Hush Records Story; Both sides of their first 45 on Sound Of The Sixties: San Francisco Part 2 (LP); Both sides of their second 45 on Psychedelic Microdots Vol. 1 (CD) and I Turned Into A Helium Balloon (CD); Don't Shoot Me Down on Garage Music For Psych Heads and Pebbles, Vol. 10 (LP); and I Ain't No Miracle Worker has resurfaced on Mindrocker, Vol. 1 (LP), Nuggets, Vol. 6 (LP), Nuggets Box (4-CD), Trash Box (5-CD), Excerpts From Nuggets (CD), Best of Pebbles, Vol. 1 (LP & CD) and Sundazed Sampler, Vol. 1 (CD).
