Which vintage records are considered to have the best sound quality, 45 rpms, 33.3 rpms, 78 rpms. . . ? The correct answer is 78 rpms. The best sounding vintage 1940-50's jukeboxes played 78s -- and (incidentally) so did vintage 1940-50's radio station disc jockeys. The sound quality on this radio station 78 is excellent! GENERIC 78 RPM RECORD COLLECTION PROVENANCE

• These 78 RPM Records are from a 1950's radio station disc jockey's collection. When the station went off the air in 1961, the DJ took the records home with him and stored them (never playing them again). Nearly 50 years later his heirs gave us the collection on consignment.
• The records in this auction are part of over 5,000 records that were stored well in heavy "Recordvelope" sleeves in a dry controlled environment. They are in excellent playing condition with no chips or cracks or scratches (pretty much what might be expected to find under a professional DJ's custodianship).
• The records have 1" scotch-taped inventory tags on their labels that the DJ used to catalog them. If removal is wanted--the tags will release easily enough when dabbed with a white vinegar loaded Q-tip without damaging the labels. Some collectors prefer that the tags be left on (for historical provenance reasons), so we haven't removed any. We've successfully removed hundreds of gummed tags and mailing labels and their accompanying glue residues from records and magazines using this method. Doubtful? Diluted vinegar has been used to remove wallpaper for a century or so. It is still the main ingredient used in cute little cans of wallpaper remover (smell disguised with perfumes).

GENERIC INFORMATION THAT APPLIES TO THIS AUCTION

• With 5,000 records to list over the next few weeks a generic auction format (like this one) was needed. Granted, there's not much to show in a plain brown kraft paper sleeved 78 RPM record scan, but some labels are rarer than others and the bidder would want to see it; so we've included label scans in this auction. Scans and camera shots of records don't really show the quality, so we have not included any.

• The important detail is that these 78 records are MONEY BACK GUARANTEED to be in excellent playable condition. Please retain the shipping box w/our return address to send the records back if dissatisfied for any reason.

GENERIC SHIPPING INFORMATION

• Each "Recordvelope" sleeved 78 RPM weighs 6.5 oz. on average. The least expensive way of getting the record(s) to the auction winner is via USPS Media Mail. Each record will be carefully insulated against damage and shipped in a box marked: "FRAGILE". The first 78 RPM record in an auction will be shipped for $5.75 (includes insurance/handling), each additional 78 RPM record will be shipped for $1.00. Example: 2 records in an auction would result in a charge of $5.75 plus $1.00, bringing the total shipping cost up to $6.75 (for both records). All further 78 RPM auction wins on the same invoice would be for $1.00 per record, w/the $5.75 first record per auction charge dropped.
